Obituary

Lived happily in Cambridge Vermont

Nadia passed away quietly at her home in Cambridge Monday June 21st.

She was born in Bangor, Maine and grew up in Lincoln Maine with two brothers and her parents Olande and Louse Barton.

Her family was her life and she had many hobbies throughout her life. She was an avid bird watcher, pie/cookie/pastry cook, a fanatic tennis player, skier, outdoor enthusiast, gardener and above all else a selfless caregiver to whoever needed it.

Nadia initiated a movement in Vermont by holding the first breast cancer support group in her own home. This grew into a statewide program for many women and continues to this day.

Survived by her loving husband, Guy, her three children, (Linda, Gig, Annie), eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren (all were so lucky to have her in their lives).

The neighbors and friends that supported her in the final months, weeks and days are people her family will forever be grateful for.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Many years ago, I met Guy Leadbetter, who was at the time, newly retired and eager to start doing the things that he had never had much time for; such as kayaking, skiing, hiking and other outdoor adventures. As a new Physical Therapist in town, I was a resource for him to help overcome aches and pains that are familiar as one ages! I believe his first concern was his shoulder as he was planning to kayak or raft with his son out West. I grew to know and respect Guy and enjoyed his wealth of knowledge about health and the short stories he would share about his family (kids and grandkids)! When I finally got to meet Nadia, (professionally for help with her shoulder), I was "delighted", as she was a GEM!!! And she needed her shoulder to get better so that she could play her doubles tennis (which I believe she played into her 80's). Behind every Great Man is a Great(er) Woman, and this rang true with her and Guy! Nadia had a "twinkle" in her eyes!! Despite what hardships she had, she always had a positive outlook. She was kind, intuitive, and had a gentle soul. And she could be funny!!! I so enjoyed seeing her and hearing any stories she would share about her early years with Guy, about her children and grandchildren!! I was able to visit her at her home, and she shared with me how her grandchild (grand daughter I believe) was married in her backyard! What a beautiful place!! Life is not fair, and she suffered many physical hardships as she aged. Sending love and condolences to Guy and Andrea in Vermont and her family from out of state that I have not had the pleasure of meeting. With Love Pam Sills / Sunrise Physical Therapy.

My father, Dr, R Paul Johnson ,passed away in Maine last year. He went to Dalhousie in NS i and Tufts medical school--not sure which one he met Dr Guy but he always spoke of him highly and fondly ! I am so sorry to hear of Nadia's passing. I live in Vermont and a highlight of one of my parents visits here ( maybe 15 yrs ago??) was getting them out to Jericho to have coffee with Nadia and Guy. They had a great time reminiscing. Please pass on our sincere condolences to Dr. Ledbetter and family from the R Paul and Yvonne Johnson family.

I’ll always be great full for the support and knowledge Mrs Leadbetter demonstrated to me as a young teenager transporting us to athletic events, cheering us on and forever being encouraging. She was a wonderful roll model of a supportive mother and had the patience of a saint to teach a handful of girls among many things including how to knit. My sincere condolences on your loss. May your happy memories carry you through this difficult time. Judy Blanchard Geissler

I well remember Nadia's smile and welcoming cheer when I visited the South Union Street home in high school. May her memory be a blessing to you all!
