I am so happy to see this tribute to a fantastic woman. My friend and I met Lyda and her girlfriend on an overnight train to Paris in 1949. We were both going to school in Neuchatel, Switzerland. She was at a private girls’ school there and I was going to the University of Neuchatel on the GI Bill. We became friends.
I always wondered what happened to her. In May 2022 I was reading a diary I kept in 1949 and she was part of it. I entered her name on the Internet and the wonderful tribute to her instantly appeared. I was overcome with nostalgia for a time so long ago none of our friends seem to have survived it. But no wonder that was 73 years ago and I’m still hanging in there at 94!
At least as Hemingway said we were young, in love and sharing Paris together. And those were incredibly delightful times to be sure. But in the end she wanted to go back to school in Paris and I wanted to finish up at Michigan State in Journalism, so we parted. It is so good to know that she married an outstanding fellow and they had a wonderful family. My goal was to live a life of adventures and to write about them. Which I have done with most of my books on Amazon. The book that is pretty much an overview of my life and adventures that include three or four photos of Lyda is titled Sailing to Adventure: Your Passport to the Best of Times. The e-book has color photos. The paperback has black and white photos. Here’s a link to my book page on Amazon:

It was a wonderful time to be young and to be in love and doing what we did then. I will always love Lyda for making it all so perfect. I am so pleased to know that she had such a full life and such a wonderful family. Thankyou for keeping it alive.
Best wishes to all of you,
