I have no story...

Hello family and friends of the humbly fantastic Scott Lawrence.

I have no specific story. Scott never came off as a big story guy. He was steady and cool, funny and generous, decent and kind. I just liked the guy. That, however, really IS the story. Scott was one of those people that felt like a safe place. When you're walking around at the mixer and there are a million conversations that you're trying to avoid, Scott was the homebase that you would see and instantly feel relieved. He was fun and fundamentally good.

When we look for those people who make a difference in our lives, we think of the big doer. We search for the moment of transition. We point to revolutions in who we are. Scott was not that for me. He was the kind of person who embodied kindness and good humor. The kind of person who forced no revolution, but rather modeled an evolution in how to be a good person. As much as those big catalyzers get the attention, there is a tremendous power in standing next to a friend, of being calm in the face of complexity, of loving your family and friends, and of being joyful in simply pleasures. Scott was that guy for me. Everyone should have, no, everyone needs, a person like that in their lives.

What a terrible loss for everyone who knew Scott. What a wonderful privilege it was to have had the chance to know him, though.
