Gimme Golf
I was thinking about Arnold today as I was watching golf on TV. He introduced me to golf on a fam trip back in the late 70s. We had met on a fam trip to Finland sponsored by Finnair, the Finnish Tourist Board and some other Finnish agency. He was a character and he provided fun conversation and entertaining ideas during the whole trip. For some reason, I decided to look for him online today and was sorry to see that he had died in 2017.
During the trip in Finland, he befriended a few of us travel agents and invited us to a golfing fam trip to Spain sponsored by his Gimme Golf tour company. We played golf at some gorgeous golf courses in Spain. I still remember the name Sotogrande where I first played. He suggested I play the whole course with a 7 iron and a putter, which I did. The course was so gorgeous that I was hooked! We played in Marbella also, and some other places. It was wonderful! By the end of the trip, I got the prize for most improved golfer since I had improved my score by about 30 strokes from the first to the last round!
When I got home to Massachusetts, I started playing golf, took some lessons, and I have enjoyed golf ever since. Those trips were among the best highlights of my travel agent years, and Ill always be grateful to Arnold for making them so special.
