Suzanne (Sue) Faye Doin Obituary

Suzanne (Sue) Faye Doin, age 79, passed away after a sudden illness on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the McClure Miller Hospice House in Colchester, Vermont. She was surrounded by immediate family during her final days.

Sue was born in Rochester, New York, on Feb. 3, 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Helen Greene, and her husband Richard Doin. Sue is survived by her son Kristopher Johnson (Donna) of Tega Cay, South Carolina.

Sue graduated from St. Agnes High School in Rochester, New York, in 1965, before going on to receive Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Plattsburgh State University College.

Sue was director of the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Plattsburgh, New York. She served as an advocate for youth initiatives in Clinton and Essex counties, working with the New York State Department of Education throughout the years before her retirement in 2005.

Sue remained a passionate community advocate in the North Country and Adirondack region of New York in retirement. She was a proud member of Adirondack Architectural Heritage and an active volunteer at the Kent-Delord House Museum in Plattsburgh.

Sue was also a Master Gardener and a prolific painter, who was recognized in several juried competitions throughout New York.

An animal lover, Sue loved and cared for her 17-year-old cat Vanya, sister Valentine, and feral cat Jack over the past two decades. Jack visited Sue for the first time about a dozen years ago, and decided to take up residence on the porch, where he had daily meals and a house lined with blankets to survive the harsh winter months.

A memorial event will be held in Sue’s honor at Christmas time with all of her many friends encouraged to attend. Event specifics in Plattsburgh will be communicated closer to the date.

Sue’s remains will be laid to rest next to her husband Richard during a private ceremony at Saratoga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, any remembrances can be made in Sue’s name to the ASPCA or the National Humane Society.
