Charles Vernon Stewart age 96 of Burlington, VT passed away July 14, 2026. He was born in Troy, NY on October 17, 1929 to Irwin and Gertrude (McFeaters) Stewart. Vern as he was known, grew up in Troy and graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1947.

During the Korean War he served four years in the U.S. Navy, mostly aboard the U.S.S. Adirondack the Flagship of the Sixth Fleet. His assignment was as Draftsman in the Intelligence Department. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Troy and attended Hudson Valley Community College obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Vern married Ruth Elsbeth Flemming of Nassau, NY on October 27, 1956 and moved to Burlington, VT. Vern had accepted a position with the General Electric Company, working in the Armament Department as a Designer and then as an Analyst in Drafting and Engineering Standards. Additionally, he worked as an Instructor for the GE Apprentice Program teaching a variety of courses in design and drafting. He retired in 1988 with almost 34 years of service.

Vern and Ruth joined the North Avenue Alliance Church in 1956. As early members they helped build the first church building and continued with the congregation serving in multiple capacities over the years. He enjoyed his Church Community as well as regularly attended gatherings of retired friends and coworkers from General Electric. Some of his interests were home improvements, working in the yard and garden, playing cards, watching sports, antiques & collectables and traveling. He and Ruth enjoyed numerous family trips to Germany to visit her relatives.

Vern is predeceased by his wife Ruth of 69 years, and survived by daughter Elaine Koenig (Paul) of Starksburo, VT, son Bruce Stewart (Barry Wood) of Douglas, MI, daughter Norma Chorlian (Philip) of Fairlawn, NJ, son Mark Stewart (Melissa) of Roxboro, NC, grandchildren Ethan Leveillee, Henry & Peter Koenig, Andrew, Maggie, Sophie & Ian Chorlian, Sarah Jensen & Samuel Stewart, and six great grandchildren, and brother Donald Stewart. He is also preceded by his parents, infant brother Richard and sister Shirley Kelly.
