Carol Ashe Fumagalli, 90, a sister, our mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, a friend, passed away on July 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Mayo Rehab & Continuing Care in Northfield where she resided for the final years of her life.

She was born in Concord, NH to Katherine (Averill) and Harry Ashe.  As a young girl, her family made their way to Vermont, settling in Williamstown where she grew up with her sister Donnie and her brother Bill.

After graduating from Williamstown High School in 1953, she worked as a secretary at the Vermont Agency of Transportation until her marriage to Edward Fumagalli of Barre on June 5,1957. They spent the next two years in Georgia while Eddie was stationed at Fort Gordon.  They returned to Barre in 1959 with the first of their six daughters. They would make their first home in East Barre and moved to Barre City in 1970 to the home that Eddie grew up in.  She moved to Waterman Street in Barre after Eddie passed away in 1995, but the Barre City house has remained in the family with a fifth generation of Fumagallis currently residing there.  

From the time of their marriage, Carol was a homemaker.  Upon their arrival back in Vermont, she spent her winters typing tax returns for her husband who ran a small tax business (Fumagalli’s Tax Service) out of their home.  In the 1970s she began working year-round as a transcriptionist for several court stenographers.  In 1990, after her daughters were all grown up, she returned to the workforce at Paterson, Walke & Pratt in Montpelier. She remained there until she retired in July of 2000.

Carol was an amazing, caring, and talented woman with a strong love of country and lived every day guided by her faith.  She absolutely loved each and every one of her six daughters and considered them her proudest achievement.  

She loved to sew and was a beautiful seamstress.  There was nothing she could not sew as long as she had a pattern. She enjoyed knitting, quilting and took up scrapbooking later in life.

Her life story would not be complete without mentioning the first love of her life, the game of baseball, and the Boston Red Sox.  From Opening Day until the last out of the season, she was listening or watching and was never without batteries or her transistor radio for those days when she was away from home.  

Her favorite place to visit... Fenway Park, of course.  Between her first visit in 1948 until her last in August of 2021, she made dozens and dozens of trips to the old ballpark.  If she knew you and knew you had never been to Fenway, her mission was to take you there because she truly believed everybody should get to experience the magic at least once.  Why?  Just because being there is so good, so good, so good!

As Alzheimer's ravaged her small body and stole most of her memories, she approached every day with dignity and grace, never angry, always smiling because, as she often told all us girls, every day you wake up and can put your feet on the floor is a blessing.  For all of us who knew and loved her, it was a blessing indeed.  It was our blessing, our honor to have had you in our lives for as long as we did.  We will cherish our memories forever and hope that we will forever make you proud.  Our hearts are full, and for that we thank you from the bottom of our collective hearts.  Rest in peace, beautiful lady, and enjoy your forever seat at Fenway.  Let’s go Red Sox!

Carol was predeceased by her husband Eddie and her sister Donalyn McKee of Rutland.

She is survived by her six daughters and their families; Karen & Gary McQuesten, Jenna and James; Lisa & Stephen Mucha, Jamie & Robert Roy, Jordan and Jacob; Nancy & Christopher Brown; Kathy Adams, Edward & Delaney Burns Fumagalli, Nathan and Hex; Sandra & James Davidson, Sarah, Amanda and Laura Lynn; Susan & Michael Mahoney and her Susquehanna Service Dog Marshal.

She is also survived by her brother William Ashe and his wife Holly, her two great granddaughters, Ava and Hattie Roy, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on August 8, 2026, at the Hedding Methodist Church in Barre at 11:00 followed by a luncheon hosted by her daughters. The day will be all about Carol's nine innings, so if you are so inclined, feel free to come dressed in the colors of your favorite team, red, blue or even pinstripes. She would truly love that!  For her baseball was not about the team that you rooted for.  It was simply about the love of the game.
