Phyllis Ann (Cummings) Satink Obituary
Phyllis Ann (Cummings) Satink, 91, of Underhill, Vermont, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on June 14, 2026. Phyllis was born August 5, 1934, in Cleveland, Ohio to Christine (Goldbach) and Melvin Cummings. She grew up in Cleveland, and later in Tiffin, Ohio until 1952, when she entered Loretto Heights College (a division of Regis University) in Denver, Colorado, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1956. That same year she was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. In November 1956, she married Robert Satink, of Queens, New York. She worked at St Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland and was Director of Nursing at Beachwood Rehabilitation Center in Beachwood, Ohio. In 1967, they moved to Berlin, Vermont where they raised their 5 children and she worked as a nurse at Central Vermont Hospital and Washington County Mental Health. In 1988, she received a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from University of Vermont. In 1990, she became an Advanced Practice Nurse in Mental Health & Psychiatry and began her independent practice in Counseling in Montpelier. She taught Psych. Nursing at Vermont College, Norwich University, and Trinity College.
Her husband Robert passed away in 1999. She continued her practice in Isle La Motte, Essex Junction, and in Underhill, Vermont. In 2004, she reconnected with an old friend, Samuel Gibson of St. Louis, Missouri. They enjoyed a close relationship and spent many years traveling and enjoying each other’s company. Sam passed away in 2024.
She loved the outdoors, hiking, biking, swimming, and rollerblading. She was a pianist and enjoyed playing jazz and old standards and dabbled in watercolor painting. She enjoyed exploration and travel. She traveled to Ireland and Portugal with her daughters. In 2024, she realized her dream of going to Peru and Machu Picchu with her dear friend, Amy. Phyllis loved her work and truly enjoyed helping people. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family—holidays, celebrations, travels, and fireworks at the Lake on the 4th.
Phyllis is survived by her children, son Fred Satink and wife Gretchen Satink of Colchester, VT, son Bill Satink of South Hero, VT, daughter Kathleen (Satink) Simanskas and husband Michael Simanskas of Underhill, VT, daughter Jeanne Satink and husband Robert Nadal of Jericho, VT, and daughter Barbara Satink Wolfson and husband Joel Wolfson of Gilroy, CA, as well as her grandchildren Andrew Satink, Margaret Satink, Jordan Simanskas, Kyle Simanskas, Nicolas Nadal, Josie Nadal, Lia Wolfson, Lynn Lehoe and great grandchildren Matthew Lehoe, Daniel Lehoe and Sean Lehoe. The family would like to thank UVM Home Health & Hospice for their amazing 24/7 support, care, and guidance.
