Wesley Ernest Newman, 91, of St. Albans, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at Mansfield Place in Essex. Born in Randolph on August 25, 1934, he was the son of Ernest and Rebecca Newman. Wesley was proud to have served his country, first in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and later as a Vermont State Trooper for over 30 years.
He attained 30 years of law enforcement experience, including approximately 17 years in supervisory and administrative roles at the mid- and senior-executive levels. He retired from the Division of State Police as Criminal Division Commander with the rank of Major. He continued to give back in retirement by helping establish and maintain the Vermont State Police Archive office.
Wesley is survived by his children, Perry (Janet) Newman , Carla (Nick) Ruggiero, Kim (Bruce) Bushey, Paul (Sherry) Newman, seven grandchildren, many loving great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Wesley is also predeceased by his wife Diane Newman, his brother Carl Newman and sister Gladys Scott.
Services will be private, with burial in the family lot at Greenwood Cemetery in St. Albans. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
