Obituary for Janet Vivian (Gonyo) Sterling
Janet Vivian Gonyo Sterling, 87 years young, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024 peacefully at UVM Medical Center in Burlington after a battle with several illnesses. Janet was born on August 4, 1936 to Noella and Robert Gonyo in Montpelier, VT.
Janet married Kenneth Harley Sterling on April 2, 1955. In the fall of 1959 they moved to Burlington, Vermont where mom lived until her passing. The most important thing to our mom and dad is their family. Because two people fell in love Janet and Ken their family has grown to a total of 60 with one due in September.
She leaves behind her loving husband Kenneth Sterling, five children and their partners, Gary Sterling and wife Jodi, Muriel Ramos and husband Ray Rick Sterling and fiancé Joanne, Dan Sterling and wife Martha, Judy Friedman and husband Dave, 22 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren plus another arriving in September, 3 great great grandchildren. Janet also leaves behind her brother Robert Gonyo, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 17, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Janet’s memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 21 Buell St. Burlington, VT 05401.
