Obituary for Gregory Douglas Edwards

Gregory Douglas Edwards (75) of Jeffersonville, Vermont passed away quickly and unexpectedly at his home on March 27, 2024 as he had always hoped for. Greg was born July 17, 1948, the first son of Douglas and Margaret (Lanphear) Edwards. Greg’s father passed away unexpectedly in a tractor accident when Greg was nine years old. Greg was lucky enough to have three men step in as father figures including Guy Sweet, his stepfather, as well as, Irving Pollander and Earl Playful, both dear family friends.

After graduating from high school Greg went to work for IBM. He took a leave of absence to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. About this time on September 6, 1969, Greg married Phyllis Taylor. They moved to Germany where Greg served in the United States Army Motorpool. In 1971 after Greg had finished his commitment to the Army, they moved back to the Jeffersonville and Cambridge area where they raised their family and continued his career at IBM.

Greg retired from IBM after 25 years then, launched into a second career in the logging industry for over 30 years. His work in the logging industry evolved from being a logger to buying veneer logs for Charlie Lee, Commonwealth Plywood and Michigan Veneer.

Greg enjoyed a fun party or good time out to eat with family and friends, many hunting and fishing trips with a lot of close friends, as well as, keeping track of Doug’s logging and sugaring operations.

Greg is survived by his daughter Stacey and David, his son Douglas and Norma-Jean (Tobi), his grandchildren Nicholas (fiancée Haylee), Caitlyn, Lillian, Taylor (fiancée Jordan) and Davey, and siblings-in-law Brenda, Frank, Bruce, Cheryl and Diane, his many nieces and nephews, canine companion Annie and many close friends.

Greg was pre-deceased by his father, step-father, mother, brother John, and wife.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Greg’s Life on April 6, 2024 starting anytime after Noon at Douglas’ sugarhouse at 25 Brewster Ridge Drive, Jeffersonville VT. Come prepared to have a good time by having a beer and sharing a story.
