Bakersfield, VT - Michele A. (Leveillee) Murphy, age 60, passed away at UVM’s McClure Miller Respite House on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023 with family by her bedside. For those that knew her well, it is no surprise that she crossed over to the other side on Halloween at the 11th hour. Michele was born the youngest of six on March 30, 1963 in Richmond, VT to Rebecca (Gorton) and Gregory Warner Leveillee.
She was a spiritual lady, and held many Pagan beliefs. She was a reader of Tarot cards, a collector of crystals, and a believer of chakras and energy.
She loved spending time at her home on Cold Creek Farm in Bakersfield. Her entire life, Michele was a lover of all animals, many of which were farm animals that she would find a reason to bring inside her home to care for so they could be extra warm and cozy. Horses held a special place in her heart (but thankfully not inside her actual home). She took pride in sharing time with her horses with family and friends.
She identified strongly as an adoptive parent and served as a foster parent with the Department for Children and Families several times.
Her career was primarily devoted to the banking industry. She began working at The Howard Bank in Richmond in the late 1980’s, where her workers here became close like family. Ultimately she retired as the Branch President from Merchant’s Bank in Enosburg. Her favorite job, which aligned best with her beliefs, was after retirement when she worked for Moonshadows in St. Albans, VT where she was able to share her love of spirituality with customers.
She was initially diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2016. She beat all of the odds and went into remission after treatment for five years. In 2022 her cancer returned with a vengeance, but Michele didn’t leave without a fight. She unsurprisingly handled the battle stoically. Michele often had an inappropriate sense of humor, often shocking her medical providers, up until the very end.
Michele leaves her four children, her daughter Jasmine Robair of East Fairfield, her son Kyle Gabaree and his wife Anna of Fletcher, her daughter Courtney McGough and her husband Evan of Westford, and her daughter Emily Murphy. Emily will now be cared for by Sonya and James Cueto, who Michele will forever be grateful to. She leaves behind her brother Kevin Leveillee, who helped to care for her and her animals, her sister Marie Paradis, and brother David Leveillee. Her granddaughters Karissa Sailer, Keyonia Robair, Maya Gabaree, McKenzie Gabaree and Anastasia McGough; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her partner, Kevin Murphy, her parents, her brother Brian Leveillee, and sister Elizabeth Leveillee.
A special thank you to Byron Gabaree, for all of his support and love. Byron is the father of Jasmine, Kyle and Courtney.
Per Michele’s wishes there will be no services held at this time.
