Obituary for Ruth Ellen Russell

Ruth Ellen Russell, age 93, of Saint Albans, passed away on April 20, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on April 16, 1930, in Sandy Creek, New York, to Charles Gibbs and Margaret Woodruff. Ruth was the beloved sister of Doris Murray, Hazel Powelczyk, Robert Gibbs, Paul Gibbs, Marjorie Bennet.

Ruth loved spending time with her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a strong and kind-hearted woman who provided a loving home for anyone who needed it. Ruth raised six children on her own and several of her grandchildren. She had 24 grandchildren and 20

great-grandchildren who she adored and cherished.

Ruth had a passion for puzzles and loved spending her free time working on jigsaw puzzles and word searches. She also enjoyed reading large-print books and could often be found with several books nearby. Her family will always cherish the memories of her sitting in her chair, working on a puzzle or reading a book. In addition to her many accomplishments, Ruth earned her diploma in 1987 as a part of the Vermont Adult Diploma Program.

Ruth was a dedicated cook for the Head Start program and at BFA St. Albans through the Abbey Group. She also worked at the hospital when it was known as Kerbs Memorial. She will be remembered for her talent to feed large groups with ease and her Christmas cookies.

Ruth is survived by her children, Gary Gibson and his wife Cindy, Mike Gibson, Jimmy Gibson and his wife Alix, Geoffrey Gibson and his wife Tracy, and her daughter Meredith Wedge. She was predeceased by her son Guy Gibson, son-in-law Pat Wedge and her nephew Ricky Gibbs along with many other nieces and nephews.

The family is deeply grateful to Bayada for the exceptional care provided to Ruth. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Sharon for her unwavering generosity and the cherished friendship she shared with Ruth. Additionally, we are grateful to Cathy for her wonderful companionship and the many card game nights she shared with Ruth.

A graveside service will be held on a later date. for those who would like to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Ruth will be deeply missed by all who knew her and her memory will live on in the hearts of the many who loved her.
