Obituary for Carroll Daniel Reynolds, Jr.

Carroll Daniel Reynolds, Jr. aka Junior and/or JR, a longtime resident of Benmont Ave. in Bennington, VT died on Saturday, April 29, 2023 in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was blessed to know his end was near and was able to say many goodbyes to loved ones and ensure all knew how much he loved them. He was born in Waterbury, VT, the fourth born child of Carroll Daniel Reynolds, Sr. and Daisy Pearl Clark on April 17, 1948.

Junior did a short stint in the Navy as a young adult. He then went on to become a ladies’ man and enjoyed spending his adult years entertaining the woman. He was married multiple times and was known as a lover and a fighter. He could be ornery, stubborn beyond measure, and blunt. However, he would give any and every person the shirt off of his back, friend or enemy. He made sure loved ones knew how much he loved them. He always said raising children did not come with a handbook, but always made sure us kids knew he was sorry for mistakes he made while raising us.

Junior worked a variety of jobs, notably as a security guard for many years for Pinkerton in North Adams, Benmont Papermill, and as a janitor for the Bennington School District and Weston Hadden, as well as a host of miscellaneous jobs throughout the years.

He is survived by his daughters Cindy Herzig, April Curtin (his caregiver), and Heaven Hilchey and all of their spouses. His grandchildren Samantha, Sarah, Felicity, Jacob, and Rachal. His great grandchildren Lydia Rose, Jace, and Cecilia. He has a host of bonus children with his step daughter Diana Jones being instrumental in assisting with taking care of him and making sure his needs were met as well as helping his daughter April at the drop of a dime, step grandchild, and step great grandchildren. Too many to individually mention: however, all loved. He is survived by his siblings Elizabeth Walker, John Reynolds, Kevin Reynolds, and Karen Petrone. He is survived by more nieces and nephews than we can account for at this time. He is also survived by his long-time companion Ruth Wescott.

He is predeceased by his parents, his siblings Richard, Julia Rose, and Alson; his son Jason Allen, and stepson John Scutt, and two wives Doris and Linda.

He leaves many friends he considered family, namely Celia Brambley, Dick Watson, and part of his VA team Michael Daley and Janet O’Bryan.

Our dad was lucky enough to receive amazing care from the VA in Vermont as well as VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region. We could never thank these organizations enough for the amazing, attentive care and compassion shown to our dad.

Services will be announced at a later date. Per his request, there will be no Funeral or wake. We will be hosting a combined memorial picnic honoring he and his brother Dick’s lives as well as his brother Chuck and sister in-law Noreen.
