David Clayton Rines of Shirley, Massachusetts, 81 passed away peacefully under hospice care and beside his wife and only daughter on Wednesday, April 5, marking the start of Passover.
David was born July 26, 1941 in Leominster MA to James and Dora Rines the 11th of 13 children. A gifted machinist, devoted husband and son, and loving and connected father, he graduated from Lunenburg High School in MA staying at home to care for his mother and father for almost 20 years. He found faith, during this time, in Christ and later in life wrote a poem titled “Life’s Journey of Promise”, which he would share with anyone he came in contact with. He would recite it, at the end of his life, to bring himself peace that that promise described in his poem was awaiting him. David was an avid pure bred chicken fancier, spending countless hours after work breeding and traveling to various shows. This a hobby handed down to him by his father James, who was one of the most notable breeders in America. David spent many years serving as Treasurer of the Northeastern Poultry Congress and writing a column in the Poultry Press that was enjoyed by many. At 35, he married Joyce Bowman, from Derby Line, and their daughter Andrea was born. They lived their married family life in Shirley, Massachusetts, tending to a simple property they both enjoyed. He loved history and the English language and collected index card upon index card full of old sayings stemming from historical reference. Later at the end of his life, in the care homes, social workers would ask to use it as a game to get residents involved in social interactions. David was a big believer in family, and his devotion to his daughter and the upbringing of his grandsons, led him to Vermont. Vermont was a place he always appreciated while visiting his wife’s family over the years. He cherished helping raise his grandsons and bonded closely with the family dog, Cody.
David leaves his devoted wife of almost 50 years, Joyce Rines, his only daughter Andrea Thorpe of Underhill, {Owner of Andrea’s Animal Care LLC Underhill in her father and grandfather’s honor} and grandsons Mark and Kevin Thorpe. He also is survived by his brothers and sisters, Virginia Freeman Welch of Massachusetts, Joyce Wanner of Virginia, Lawrence Rines and Gwendolyn Carter of Massachusetts and Wayne Rines of California as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
David is predeceased by 7 siblings. Everett James Rines Sr, Manning Rines, Evelyn Pearl Rines, Eudora Whitman-Rising, Paul Rines, James Perley Rines Jr, and Doris Martin.
The family would like to thank the hospice team and long term care facilities where David lived over the years he struggled with Parkinsons. The numerous nurses and social workers that supported him through all three residencies, were a constant blessing. And especially, family friends Kelly Baldwin of Cambridge and Jennifer Curley of Jericho, who helped spend time with David during his illness and passing.
Per David’s wishes, there will be no services held at this time. His ashes are to be joined with his wife Joyce, upon her passing, and are being held in safekeeping by his daughter and grandsons.

LIFE'S JOURNEY OF PROMISE
Inspiration from the Book of Genesis......
by David c. Rines
Life's Journey of Promise begins with His Word, in the beginning thru the ages, only His Spirit was heard.
When God proclaimed His Promise to multiply thy Seed, it was to His people and His Promise was to lead. Little did Abraham know, that He would include you and me, to that "Wonderful Promise, numbering the "sands of the sea".
To that "great Family Tree" that Promise would be proclaimed ....for century to come, they were ready to be won. They respond to His call, that the Promise is true, one day He'll return with a "hark" from the blue.
Right from our birth, a vessel thou gleaned, the "stains of my sin" is now justified and cleaned.
0' God, thou art the rock on which I stand, down thru the years of quickening sand.
Thou art always the same from day to day, thy great love for we who have gone astray.
For all my tomorrows, thou will remain the same, to we who are chosen in thee, are twain.
To we who have trusted, and "brought to bear", by His great love for me, I am no worse for wear.
My sins which were many, are laid at His feet, the ransom now paid for, thy Word is complete.
As I pass so swiftly thru this "veil of tears", for thy Promise which is true, removes all my fears.
Through the dawn, the days, and the darkness, thy "light" is a beacon of Hope, not despair; to again rejoice in thy Word, and the Promise .....
To whom shall I go? Tis' Jesus who cares!
I hear of His birth, and the life that He lived, but His death and resurrection were His "gift to give".
To "we" who were purchased by thy blood stained cross, through eternity bliss, we will suffer no loss.
One day this old world shall be rolled as a schroll. and the old, old story won't need to be told.
When Jesus shall come in the clouds of the air, to "rapture" me wholly,
with His great love to share.
To we who have trusted, and "brought to bear"; that
'Blessed Hope"? The "Meeting in the Air"!!
Of His infinite Promise, how can I know best? When ''all that the Father giveth me", reach that "Haven of Rest".
"Glory, glory" is awaiting me there, when alas', "Life's Journey of Promise is mine to share. To ever be with Him, when that "journey" is dim,
What a "wonderful Promise" I'll then find in "Him"!!
*********************************************************************
Re-union with loved ones in the ages to come, as through the "Eastern Gate" .....we file, one by one.
In Heaven at last....the Promise complete, as we the "redeemed" kneel at Jesus feet.
To once again hear the songs of "redemption past", when with my dear loved ones, I find rest at last!!
I'll sing a "new song", and have a new name", but in His "blessed" likeness....I'll still be the same.
We'll be known as we are known....with "crowns to be won", but the crown of Life Eternal,.is in Jesus the "dear Son".
To be found "in 'Him" justified, and "washed white as snow", Life's Journey of Promise, with His Word ....I will then know!!
It can never be taken from me, at the Journey's end, only added there-until the Savior's blend. A people "for His name", as the Promise does declare. A "crown of life eternal", we and our loved will then share.
To ever be with the Lord., for all the ages to come, when the II Journey of Promise",.....is at last "all done"!!
When His love for me, is at last complete, as I forever kneel at the Master's feet.
0' Journey of Promise, 0' Journey of Promise, how blessed be the thought. When in heaven at last,...I'll see "what the blood bought"!!
To sing His praises forever, in that beautiful land, to be among the “redeemed”…..and number in that band.
After many long years...running Life's wearisome race, I'll see once again, Dad and Mom, and their smiling face.
That "glad re-union day" is awaiting me there.....
"THE MARRIAGE SUPPER IS READY"
"LIFE'S JOURNEY OF PROMISE" has been "brought to bear"!!!
