Obituary for Laura A. Houghaboom

Laura A. Houghaboom, 64 of Milton, VT, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022 at the McClure Miller Respite House with her loving family by her side. Laura was born on May 23rd, 1958, the youngest of 4 daughters of the late Raymond and Francelia Houghaboom, “Daddy” and “Momma”.

Known to many as Hugy, as the name implies, Laura loved giving and getting hugs. Ask anyone and they
would tell you Hugy’s friends and family were most important to her. Laura’s boisterous laugh was
infectious, and her imitation ape call, legendary. Her cats were her babies, she leaves behind Baby
but has now joined Tiggy, Bianca and Maggie Mae.

Following in her Daddy’s footsteps, Laura was a fan of the Boston Celtics. She loved going out to
breakfast, making a trip to the casino, and Dunkin Donuts. Laura spent a career of 20+ years working at IBM in Essex where she met some of her dearest friends. The time spent at the family’s camp on Lake
Champlain in Swanton was Laura’s sanctuary. The hours and hours spent swimming with her nieces and
nephews, was a cherished memory for both her and for them.

Laura was the best aunt, great aunt, and even great-great aunt anyone could ask for. She loved us big
and we loved her big back!

Laura is survived by her sisters, Mary Couture of Ohio and Jackie (Reggie) Trayah of Georgia;
Nieces and nephews: Brock, Cathy, Jessica, Garth, Jerritte, Ben, Reggie “Joe”, Adam, and Samantha;
Great nieces and nephews: Sydney, Perry, Caleb, Eric, Alex, Elizabeth, Alexis, Garret, Nathan and Ryan;
Great-great nieces and nephews: Carson, Danni, Quinn, Ozzy and Benjamin; Lifelong friend, Holly Turner.

She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond & Francelia; her sister, Frances Rae; Uncle, George Davis; Uncle, Harry Davis; Aunt, Delma Crosier & Brother-in-Law, Joe Couture. We are sure they had quite the party when Laura joined them!

The family would like to thank the staff at the McClure Miller Respite House for the compassion and care shown to Laura and the family during the difficult time of saying goodbye; and a very special thank you to Paul & Laurie for their overwhelming support throughout the years for Laura and Baby.

A Celebration of Life for Laura will be held on Saturday, March 25th, 2023 at The Venue, 28 Cornelia Ct., Suite 106, Milton, VT 05468 from 12pm-4pm.
