Obituary for Marybeth "MB" Prager

Marybeth (MB) Prager, 60, passed away on Sunday, June 19th, 2022 at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, VT surrounded by loved ones while reminiscing about their favorite memories with her. MB was born in Darby, Pennsylvania on November 20th, 1961 to her loving parents, Richard and Rita Skurka.

MB was an incredibly kind, loving, and thoughtful wife, mother, and friend who consistently cared about the needs of others above her own. She was deeply involved with the Catholic Church and held steadfast to her faith throughout her 12 year battle with cancer. Some of her happiest moments were spent with loved ones and her community (dogs included), particularly on her boat in Lake Champlain, or “down the shore”. Throughout her entire fight with cancer, she refused to let it bring her down, stop her from seeing those she loved, or change the person she was. We sincerely hope her positive attitude and grateful spirit will be an inspiration to all.

She is survived by her loving husband Brian, son Emerson, brother John Skurka and sister-in-laws Rita Skurka, Cathy Prager, and Stacey Prager, and brother-in-law Dan Dour. Also, nieces Francine French (Pete), Casey McClellan (Kyle), Tara Skurka, and Kate Astor. Nephews Eric Astor (Erin), Sam Skurka, and Matt Skurka. And of course, her beloved Golden Retriever, Trace. She is predeceased by her parents Richard and Rita Skurka, her brother Stephen, and sister-in-law Mary Jane.

We want to send a special “thank you” to the doctors and nurses at Dana Farber Cancer Center and University of Vermont Medical Center for the exceptional treatment, care, and kindness provided throughout her long battle with cancer.

We would also like to send a sincere “thank you” to the doctors, nurses, and volunteers at the McClure Miller Respite House for providing the care, love, and support to sustain the highest quality of life in her final weeks on earth. The time spent there allowed her to say goodbye to some of those closest to her, and truly feel both at home and at peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be celebrated, and will be held at Holy Cross Church in Colchester, VT. The date and time of both are to be determined and announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or cards, MB and her family ask that you please go out of your way to do something kind for someone.
