Obituary for Duane Edward Jones

Duane Edward Jones, 66, of Winooski, VT, passed away May 15, 2022 at University of Vermont Medical Center. Known to some as “Cavey”, he was born November 22, 1955 in Burlington, VT to Thomas Richard and Mary Teresa (Crowley) Jones. After graduating from Essex High School in 1973, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he excelled in Fuel and Electrical Systems Repair and was honorably discharged in 1977. He then worked at IBM for 20 years, finishing his time there as an engineer.

Duane loved motorcycles, golf, classic car shows, and stock car races but nothing made him happier than his three daughters and two granddaughters. He lives on through them in their sense of humor, compassion, and dedication to family. He was a peacemaker, amazingly resilient, and always rooting for the underdog. We remember his laugh, the long stories, the movie quotes, and his affinity for “dad jokes”.

He is survived by his children Shawna Burgess (Brian), Sandra Jones, and Danielle Jones; grandchildren Mara and Aileigh Burgess; his siblings Marjorie Jones, Thomas N. Jones (Eden), Joann Mclean (David), and Mark Jones (Paula); many nieces and nephews; and his former spouse Louise Mireles. Duane is predeceased by his mother and father.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 2nd at A.W. Rich Funeral Home in Essex, VT, 5pm-8pm. A graveside service will follow on Friday, June 3rd at Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington, VT at 2:30pm.

Memorial contributions in Duane’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to C.O.T.S. (Committee on Temporary Shelter).
