Obituary for Patricia Marie (McGrath) Rich

Essex Junction - Patricia “Pat” Marie (McGrath) Rich, 75, passed away on February 9, 2022 at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington surrounded by loving family. She was born on August 20, 1946 daughter of the late Harold and Josephine (Wood) McGrath.

Pat was an avid reader but more importantly she was a prolific writer. Amazingly enough she was an incredible artist as well. She once said that there was nothing more exciting to her than a blank piece of paper and a pen for, she could write anything she wanted and it could never be wrong because her stories belonged to her. In addition to her writing and drawing, she loved garage sales, fishing, anything Elvis Presley and spending time with her family. Pat was always the first to laugh and found the humor in most anything. She will be greatly missed by those that loved her.

Pat is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Leo Rich Sr., of Essex Jct; four children: Lois Goff and her husband Ronald of Hawaii; Tina McGrath of Essex Jct; Timothy Rich and his wife Karrie of Milton; Christopher Rich of Essex Jct. Step-sons: Leo Rich Jr and his wife Michele of St. George; Ed Rich and his partner Amy of Winooski; many grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her favorite feline friend Smokey.
Patricia was also predeceased by her brothers Danny McGrath, Michael McGrath and sister Carol Myers, and her two sons: Kenneth Bushway and Shawn Bushway.

A special thank you is extended to Joan Russell for the love and companionship she provided this past year, Christine “Jellybean” Lewis for the amazing care and beautiful friendship; to the caring aides and nurses at Elderwood, to the doctors and nurses at UVMMC for their loving care and attention.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at A W Rich Funeral Home – Essex Chapel. Burial will be held in the Spring in the family lot in Sanderson Corners Cemetery on May 20, 2022 at 10:00 am. Memorial contributions in Patricia’s memory may be made to The Children’s Hospital at UVMMC. The family also invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting awrfh.com.
