Obituary for Lillian ”Porky” Reade

Lillian ”Porky” Reade of Colchester, Vermont, 77, passed away on January 27, 2022 at the UVM Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont surrounded by her family. She was born on November 1, 1944, in Maynard, MA to Lillian Mary Woods and Charles Joseph Alexander.

She loved many things – animals, gardening, flowers, reading, riding her bike, building rock cairns, helping the countless number of students she met during her 40 years working at the University of Vermont, spending time at the beach, visiting with friends and cooking and having them over for one of her delicious, home-cooked meals, helping others, but most of all her love for her family meant the most to her. Always taking care of them, making sure they had everything they needed, making every birthday, Christmas, and special occasion just that- special and filled with wonderful memories. She always put others needs first before hers, nurturing and taking care of everyone around her. Whenever someone met her for the first time, they instantly had a new friend in her. Porky loved every bird, animal, insect, flower, and plant she saw. Her green thumb was second to none and she loved nothing more than digging her hands in dirt and planting her flowers. Come springtime, you can bet her yard would be filled with the prettiest gardens and flowers on the street.

She leaves her soulmate Ron; 3 sons Ronnie, David and Bobby and daughter-in-law Kristy, a sister Janice, 4 grandchildren – Therese, Hannah, Lindsey, and Maya, 2 nieces – Jeannine and Charlene. Predeceased by her mother Lillian Mary Woods and father Charles Joseph Alexander; brother Charles Alexander.

A church service and memorial service will be held later in the spring at Holy Cross Church in Colchester, Vermont. Inurnment will follow in the family lot in Cataumet Cemetery in Cataumet, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Porky’s memory may be made directly to her page at World Wildlife Fund by clicking here or your favorite animal charity.
