Obituary for Robert E. "Bob" St.Don

Robert E. “Bob” St.Don, 88, of Burlington Vermont passed away peacefully September 4, 2021 with family by his side.

He was born on March 1, 1933 in Burlington Vermont to the late Thomas A. St.Don and Doris M. St.Don/Hall. Bob grew up at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester Vermont.

On January 12, 1957, he married the love of his life, Diana Jean Barbeau. They shared 64 years together until Diana’s passing on March 13th of this year.

Bob proudly served from 1953-1955 in the US Army, 1953-1955 in the US Air Guard, and then 1955-1972 in the US Air Force for a total of 23 years of service to his country. After his retirement in 1972, Bob and his family then moved back to Vermont. He then started another career, working at Edlund Company in Burlington, until his second retirement in 1995.

Bob was very active in sports throughout his life to include basketball, volleyball, broom ball and ping-pong. He was recognized in many military tournaments and then playing in recreation leagues. He was an avid hunter, especially enjoying his time in the woods with his son and son-in-law’s. Bob had many hobbies and interests over the years that he enjoyed with his family, relatives and friends. He was a well-known tinkerer and over the years created many of his own inventions and gadgets. Bob always enjoyed singing and dancing with his beloved wife Diana.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Hebert and husband John of Hinesburg, Robert St.Don of Colchester, Linda Bleau and husband Bill of Essex Junction, Christopher St.Don of Burlington, six grandchildren Billy Bleau and his wife Ashley, Tim Hebert, Jennifer Bleau, Jessica St.Don, Andrew Bleau, David Hebert, and one great-grandchild James Hebert. He is also survived by his brother James Hall and wife Sharon of Huntington, brother in law David Barbeau and wife Brandi of Burlington, sister in law Esther Wyckoff and husband John of North Carolina, many nieces, nephews, and many good friends.

Bob was a devoted Father and Grandfather. He enjoyed sharing his experiences, wisdom and always telling stories with a bit of humor.

Beside his parents, Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Diana, his step father Elmer F. Hall, his brothers Thomas St.Don and Jack Hall, Sisters June (St.Don) Ferland and Suzanne (Hall) Lavee.
The St.Don family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Ethan Allen Residence for their care and kindness over the last few years and thank you to the Bayada Hospice team for your care and support.
Per Bob’s wishes there will be no visiting hours held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday September 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 1251 North Avenue, Burlington with Reverend Dallas St. Peter officiating. Inurnment will follow in the family lot in Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery, Colchester.
