Obituary for Margaret (Crowley) Driscoll

Essex Junction, VT- Margaret Mary (Crowley) Driscoll passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2021at the age of 98. She was born May 13, 1923 in Shelburne, VT to Garrett and Anna (Hayes) Crowley. She graduated from Shelburne High School in 1941 and the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in 1945.

Margaret married James Driscoll on February 17, 1947 at St. Catherine's Church in Shelburne. They took up residence in Essex Junction where they raised six children.

Margaret worked as a registered nurse at Fanny Allen Hospital for nearly 25 years before teaching practical nursing for the State of Vermont at the Fanny Allen School of Practical Nursing until her retirement.

For much of her adult life, Margaret was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Fanny Allen. She was a founding member of St. Lawrence Parish. As founding members of the Champlain Valley Road Runners Camping Club, Margaret and Jim spent many years traveling throughout the US and Canada. They especially enjoyed time in the Maritime Provinces and many winters with friends in Alabama. Wherever they traveled, she enjoyed meeting people and striking up a conversation.

Margaret is survived by her six children: Sharon Sharp of Mendon and her children Sarah (Jon) Rock of Williston and Matthew Sharp of Charlotte, NC; Maureen Kennedy of Littleton, NH; Brian Driscoll of Essex Jct.; Eileen and Steve Frowenfeld of Metuchen, NJ, and son Brian of Baltimore, MD; Martha Soucy of Jamestown, RI and her children Trevor (Jane) of Revere, MA, Gillian of Boston, MA, and Garrett (Michelle) of Brazil; and Mary Kay Driscoll of Essex Jct. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James, in 2001, her brother, Paul Crowley, her sister, Teresa Jones, and her son-in-law, David Sharp.


Visitation will be held on Sunday June 27, 2021 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at A W Rich Funeral Home – 57 Main Street, Essex Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church on Monday June 28, 2021. Internment will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Shelburne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UVM Home Health and Hospice or St. Lawrence Church.
