Stephen Todd Bowden, age 58, died on June 3rd, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Todd was born on June 1st, 1963 in Enid Oklahoma. He was the beloved son of Peyton Randolph and Susan Shaw Bowden and brother of Elizabeth Bowden Nuckols and brother-in-law of David Nuckols. Todd was the proud and much loved “Unkie” of Ashlyn and Christopher Nuckols. He grew up in Chesapeake Virginia and graduated from Western Branch High School. He went on to attend the University of Virginia, the College of William and Mary and the University of Vermont where he received a Bachelors of Science and two Masters Degrees.

Todd worked at Ellucian as a Senior Software Trainer. His prior work included Computer Science teacher at Rutland High School and Programmer at IDX in South Burlington, Vermont.

He will be remembered by his family and many friends for his thoughtfulness, generosity, sharp wit and wisdom. His happiest days were spent with friends and family at the lake, the beach, sporting events and wherever loved ones were gathered.

Todd was a beautiful soul and one of the most considerate human beings I have ever known. I first met Todd when I was teaching English and he was teaching Computer Science at a community college in VA. I sensed that he was special when I noticed him in a faculty meeting; he had the sweetest smile and was smart, funny and polite. So I decided to get to know him better by asking for his help with my PC during a break between classes (after making sure he was single, of course). I asked him a question I already knew the answer to, which I later admitted to him. He asked me out, and I am so glad that he did because he enriched my life in many ways.

Todd was the perfect gentleman while we were dating; he was kind, respectful, and supportive; he made me laugh so often. I adored his brilliant sense of humor and found his penchant for organization and making lists completely endearing. He also introduced me to the beauty of Vermont with his wonderful family one Christmas. Those memories remain some of the most magical of my life - going to the cider donut mill, walking the Robert Frost Trail together, visiting the Ben & Jerry's factory, exploring Stowe, strolling down Church Street, and visiting general stores, etc.

Although we did not continue dating, we always had the deepest love and respect for one another. During the past year and a half, we had reconnected and become even closer. We played ongoing online Scrabble games for about a year, and my win rate was really low. As he often reassured me, he got better letters, which was true most of the time. However, I think he was playing more strategically (patience was more his virtue). For example, he used the word "QI" almost every single game and somehow connected it to other words in order to rack up a ridiculous amount of points for the use of 2 letters. We also talked frequently and planned to travel by train to NYC to see some Broadway plays in April 2020. Of course, Covid destroyed those plans. Time ran out, but my love remains.

I will forever miss the sound of Todd's voice and laughter, our many inside jokes, and deeply intimate conversations. I will only find solace in the memories of knowing this precious man who was a most devoted son, brother, and brother-in-law; proud uncle and dear friend to so many.

Rest in peace, my love.

Todd is my standard for a good man, and he set that standard high. I admired his quiet strength and the love he always demonstrated to family and friends. He brought me so much joy, and I feel fortunate to have known him intimately. I will forever cherish the memories of him in my heart.

I was the designated driver for Todd, Jimmy & Trey Resolute when we were in high school and college. They would have me laughing until I couldn't breathe. Those three together were trouble. I had many a good time chauffeuring them from Portsmouth to Virginia Beach and back. Todd had a quick wit and was so intelligent. I am heartbroken that he is gone. He will be missed dearly.

My condolences to your entire family. We are sending our love to you.

Much love,
Marcia Russo Tabet and Family
