Obituary for Bonnie Doris (Thompson) White
Bonnie Doris (Thompson) White, born in Bridgeport, CT and grew up in Shelton, CT.
Bonnie passed away on March 27th, 2021 at 730 am at North Country Hospital in Newport, VT with her baby son holding her hand
Bonnie grew up in Connecticut with her parents, for whom she had a huge love for, and one younger sister. She found her calling in the helping profession early on with her job working in a long term care nursing facility as a teenager. Her early life was filled with fun and wild adventures, as fondly recalled by her family and friends, and are too numerous to list.
Through the years, Bonnie made her mark in the cities that she lived in, which included, Liverpool, NY, Haverhill, MA, Akwesasne Mohawk territory, and Plattsburgh, NY where she spent the last 20 years of her life. Her jobs throughout the years included nursing home worker, small business owner, Addiction counselor in both adult and teenage treatment facilities, and as a direct support professional serving individuals with developmental disabilities for 18 years before her retirement in 2018. She had a passion for caring for people with addiction issues, and for the developmentally disabled, so she felt extremely rewarded by her work with those populations. She received an Associate’s degree from Mater Dei College in Massena, NY, and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology from Plattsburgh State University.
Everyone who knew Bonnie knows that she was a total neatfreak! She loved to clean, always having a rag in her hand wiping something down - sometimes dancing as she did so in her younger years. She was an avid reader, and could always be found with a book in her hand during her leisure time. Bonnie had a deep fascination and admiration for the Amish community. She voraciously studied their culture, and immensely enjoyed a few vacations in Pennsylvania Amish country. She enjoyed travelling in general and looked forward to her yearly summer extended vacations. She enjoyed shopping and buying clothes, after which she would complain that she had too many!
Bonnie was a fiercely protective, supportive, encouraging, and loving mother to her four sons and grandson who she raised. Her boys were her world and there was absolutely nothing that she wouldn’t do for them. Her love for the could move mountains. She made many sacrifices throughout her life to provide for her family, at times to her detriment. She would have it no other way, however.
Bonnie proved that she was a fighter all her life. She was a two time cancer of breast and esophagus survivor, She wore her survivor as a badge, literally, as a pink ribbon tattoo on her left forearm.
She leaves behind precious sons, Vincent and Renee Martin, Mark and Angel Kulengosky, Lee Jackson, and Andrew White (affectionately known as Bubba). Also, her baby sister Louella Thompson and her husband Brian. Left mourning her passing are also her grandson, Justin Kulengosky and granddaughters Lindsay and Jasmine, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence Thompson and her beloved mother, Doris. Her cherished granddaughter Rose Marie Kulengosky left a huge void in her heart upon her passing.
A special thanks is extended to her caregivers during the final year of her life, Joe, Bridget, Francine, Cole, and “Tank”. They made it possible for her to live her final life in as much comfort and with as much freedom as possible. A heartfelt and grateful thank you is given to the 3rd floor staff at North Country Hospital in Newport, VT for their exceptional and compassionate care provided to bonnie and family during the final moments of her life.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. A celebration of life will occur at a later date. She will be cremated, and her ashes will be placed in a place near and dear to her heart.
