Obituary

Shawn Thomas Patrick, 49, of Williston, Vermont, passed away unexpectedly after a long battle with Multiple System Atrophy on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at The University of Vermont Medical Center. He was born on May 8, 1971, in Burlington VT, the son of Gene Patrick and Julie Green.

Shawn graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School in 1989. He received an Associate in Engineering degree from Vermont Technical College in 1992 and in 2005 he earned a Bachelor of Science in computer networking at Champlain College.

His career began at IBM where he worked for 9 years and at Systems and Software, in Williston, Vermont for many years as a Systems Administrator.

Shawn’s daughters were most important to him and he loved them dearly. He was an amazing and dedicated father. He enjoyed spending time with his girls and watching them grow into the strong beautiful young women they are today. He was so proud of them both. He enjoyed teaching them to ski, wakeboard and hunt. They spent time together camping and traveling. Over the years the family traveled to Disney, Colorado, Key West and the Dominican Republic as well as annual trips to Cape Cod.

Shawn had a love for the outdoors throughout his life, which included boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding and hunting. He was a movie buff and in his later years enjoyed watching movies with his daughters and sister Jen. Shawn was a true Vermonter, he loved anything and everything Maple. He always looked forward to spending time at the family camp in Montgomery and the annual guys trip there. Shawn was such a great guy. I worked with him at IBM and skill and willingness to work showed the true Vermonter he really was. His upbeat attitude encouraged everyone at work and in his personal life. He will truly be missed.

Sending my love to everyone! It’s so sad to hear about the passing of Shawn! I know everyone in the Gibeault family really loved Shawn! We all are thinking of the girls especially at this time! I will never forget the fun I had with Shawn and Danielle (at the cape when we took a trip to Martha’s Vineyard and rented mopeds)! It was so much fun & we all had a blast 😊 Shawn will be deeply missed! RIP Shawn ❤️ - Marlana Gibeault (cousin)

I’ll never forget all of the time spent at Our camp on Lake Dunmore with you and Danielle, the boating, teaching me to wake board and always making the biggest waves fir me and my friend tubing. The trips on the bus to Burlington to stay with you guys for the weekend countless times in my childhood, yearly Cape Cod trip, witnessing the beauty of you and Danielle becoming parents for the first time and the second time.... All of our family gathering with our crazy family, and you sitting back and taking it all in, laughing at the chaos and never ever once getting upset with any of us for our crazy ways. You were always the level headed, calm, funny and kind one of the bunch. The best Dad to Madi and Makenna. And the BEST uncle to my Noah. And the best brother in law to me and my siblings. I feel so grateful for the time Noah and I got with you while I attended UVM. The weekends you spent with me and Billy at our house in the most recent years. I wish you had the time with Harleigh that you did with Noah but we will all keep your memory alive for her through stories and photos. I just can’t believe you’re gone but I hope that you are at peace and I know for sure you will be watching over every single one of us. Love you so much and I couldn’t possibly put into words how much you will be missed. I promise to always be there for your girls. Until we meet again! ❤️ Your favorite sister in law - Brittany/ Bee

Shawn, man, I have missed you since I moved to NC. I cant put into words how heart breaking it was to see how your physical condition worsened from when I was home for Easter in 2014 to 2018 just before Christmas. However, it was awesome to spend some time with you and refreshing to see you were still the same Smart Alec “Redneck from Richmond” brother-in-law as always. 😂👊🏻
Man, im not sure you understand how much of a role you played in the toughest years of my life, but i’m so grateful that you took the time to be a positive role model for me to follow. You played a ginormous part in my success in turning my life around and being the kick-butt man and father I am today.

I tell Owen stories almost nightly, about me and Uncle Shawns camping trips in Ghoshen and Bolton and hiking and mountain biking in Bolton (i think thats what the name of the town was), fishing all over Chittenden and Rutland Counties, weekends riding at Pico and Winter Snowboarding trips to Utah.
And then when you took me hunting at your Dad’s camp and i got lost for like 2 hours and i thought i was gonna freeze to death in the mountians- all because you forgot to turn the dang walkie-talkie back on after the moose came back 😂... That moose stalked us for like 2 hours, i was so scared 😆.
Owens favorite story is of the time we went hunting near my moms house when she lived off colonial drive and i flipped my 4wheeler and you reached out and grabbed it one handed by the rack after it tumbled end over end 2 1/2 complete rotations and you stopped it from continuing to the bottom of that mountain!! 😂🤷🏻‍♂️💪🏼 That was awesome dude, ONE HANDED lol!
I will miss you man, sure as he!l wont ever forget you, thats for sure 👊🏻. Rest In Peace Shawn I love you man and i know you will be looking out for me and owen and Madi and Makenna and Danielle and everyone else that loves you.
Till we meet again ya “Richmond Redneck”...
