Obituary for Brian Gerard McKenna

St. Albans Bay - Brian G. McKenna, 66, passed away February 14th, 2021 at the McClure Miller respite house with friends and family by his side. Brian was born February 22, 1954 at Flushing Hospital in Queens NY, to Patrick McKenna and Virginia Haltner McKenna.

Brian grew up in Sacred Heart Parish in Bayside Queens NY, where he enjoyed playing many sports and spending time with friends in the park. He served in the Navy, worked in the first AIDS unit at NYU and was a welder by trade. Brian loved stargazing, traveling, riding his Harley Davidson, listening to music, dancing, discussing politics, and watching sports. There was no question that he was his children and grandchildren’s biggest fan. They will always remember him in the stands cheering them on. Those that knew Brian know he was a trip. You didn’t just know him, you experienced him. He was a loyal Husband, Father, and Friend. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his loved ones.

Brian was predeceased by parents Patrick and Virginia McKenna. Brian is survived by his wife Bonnie (Bonzo); their sons, Amer and partner Colette, Jamir and wife Crystal, Connor and fiancé Ryan; grandchildren, Haven, Miya, Kayden, Christopher, Sophia, Carston, Coltyn, River and Aurora; brothers, Frank and wife Michelle, Kevin and wife Barbara, Patrick and wife Bertine; sister, Ginna; nephews and niece, Chris, Shannon, Kevin, Maura, Ryan, Michael, Alex, Tommy and many more beloved cousins.
Per Brian’s wishes there will be no services but a celebration of his life, which will be determined by his family at a later date.

A special thank you to the staff at the McClure Miller Respite House for their care and compassion towards Brian and Family. A special thank you to Mohamad Moussawi, NP and staff for their true care of Brian’s wellbeing.
