Obituary

Gary A. Cutler, 66, of Essex Junction passed away on Monday February 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born June 3, 1954 to Charlotte and Marcus Cutler, he enjoyed an early childhood in Montpelier before moving to Burlington at the age of 12. Gary graduated from Burlington High School in 1972, and immediately joined New England Telephone where he worked his entire career before retiring from Verizon in 1998.

Gary married his high school sweetheart Janel Beaulieu on March 2, 1974 at Saint Joseph's Church in Burlington and they went on to raise two children.

After retirement, Gary enjoyed researching family genealogy and studying the stock market. He was very proud to be an 8th generation Vermonter. Gary had a sharp mind and a great sense of humor that carried him through his final days.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janel; son Matthew Cutler and his wife Patricia; daughter Jade Cutler; father Marcus Cutler; brother Douglas Cutler; and sisters Cynthia Fuller and Annemarie Cutler.
As well as a large extended family which he treasured.

He was predeceased by his mother Charlotte in November 2020.

At this time, services will be held at the discretion of the family at a later date.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ades and his team at the UVM Medical Center department of Oncology and the team at UVM Home Health and Hospice specifically nurses Sandra and Susan for their compassionate care that was provided to Gary and his family.

Today we lost a part of us that time will not erase
We will hold it deep inside our soul in a very special place
We never can replace it and wouldn’t if we could
It’s a special branch on the family tree; the place where Gary stood

This special place feels empty now which time can never fill
He wanted us to carry on and because of that we will
We will miss him everyday more than he will ever know
and the memories we share of him will always overflow

Oh how we will miss seeing him and share a gentle smile
and how we’ll miss those little chats we had across the miles
As a member of our family he was a brave and strong life force
and if your life felt a bit off track he’d help you get back on course

His judgement and his common sense would help us all along
His honestly and clarity led us all to become strong
Our lives will all seem different now from what they used to be
Things always change as branches fall and leave the family tree

We could always talk for hours on end and learn from one another
We are grateful for the memories of a father, son & brother
He also was a husband, a cousin and a friend
With words of wit and wisdom on which we could depend

We could speak of him forever as there’s so much more to say
and we all will feel the loss of him in a completely different way

His essence is among us with the earth, the sun and moon
but we still are sad because he was taken away too soon

We will stay strong and carry on and let him guide the way
and that special place within our soul is where he will always stay

-Annemarie Cutler

Very sorry to hear about Gary. I worked with him in the line crew in Newport quite a lot one summer in the early 70's and he was a joy to work with. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Randy Ricker Waterbury Vt.
