Georgia - Mary Ellen Trayah, 69, passed away at McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester. She was born in St. Albans on April 6, 1951 daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Adams) Trayah.

Mary was a licensed nursing assistance who was dedicated and loving caregiver for family members and the community having been employed for many years with Franklin County Home Health. She was also employed for many years with Vermont Toy Farm and Vegimals. She looked forward to her Saturday night pot luck card games, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and was a Red Sox fan. Mary was a member of Georgia United Methodist Church. She loved her pets dearly and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Mary is survived by her feline companion Rusty, nephew Steven Trayah (Mandy); niece Annette Trayah-Aines (Jody); 6 great nieces and nephews, 4 great-great nieces and nephews, several cousins, her special friends Nina, Lori & Genevieve, her church family and her lovingly “adopted” family at the McClure Miller Respite House who we thank from the bottom of our hearts for the loving care and attention afforded Rusty & Mary during her stay.

She was predeceased by her brother Steven R. Trayah.

Mary was a caregiver in our home for "Nana" for several years. She was professional in her care; and brought kindness, understanding, and humor to us all, especially to Nana. It is an honor to call her our friend. We are saddened to know we can no longer hear her stories, her laugh, her opinions, and her wit. She remains in our hearts. And I am confident she is making Nana laugh and smile once again. Rest in Peace, dear Mary. The Chiappinelli Family, Georgia VT

Mary was one of the best! Thoughtful, kind, and always and advocate for the people she cared for. Mary was a mentor to many health care workers and taught so many people how to take care of people in their homes. She was a true professional; it was a privilege and a pleasure to work with Mary. Until we meet again.

I met Mary while working at the Georgia Market. Such a sweet kind soul! She would often mention potluck card games with relatives. She loved her English cucumbers for lunch and her root beer soda. Bless you Mary!

Early on I found myself saying to Mary every time I stepped out of her room at the Respite House, "Always a Pleasure." I made sure she knew that truly every interaction I had with her over the year she was with us really was an absolute pleasure. She had such a lovely way of engaging you in conversation about all kinds of topics. She showed how much she cared.
Mary asked me near the end why she was here so long when her prognosis had been so short. I told her what I absolutely believe had happened. We needed her, during the turmoil of a pandemic and political upset of this country. Being a most incredibly giving person, she felt the need and gave to us all she had, her kindness, compassion and wisdom. What a gift!
Mary was an angel here on earth and now she is an Angel in the Heavens with Rusty still at her side.
