June Margaret Whitney, 86, of Essex Jct, Vermont and formerly of Bonita Springs, Florida and West Brookfield, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester after a long illness with COPD. She was born May 24, 1934 in New Britain, Connecticut to Richard & Agnes (Roos) Lang.
June graduated from Westborough High School in Westborough, Massachusetts in 1952 and was voted the ‘best dancer’ in her senior class. She enjoyed gardening and was a Boston Red Sox, NE Patriots, and Boston Bruins fan.
June was very involved in the Senior Center in West Brookfield, Massachusetts and was instrumental in getting the Senior Center built. She was an incredible avid reader and read novels all her life; a minimum of 100 pages/day. June was an excellent cook and a big cat lover. She painted many unique oil paintings which were divided up to many family members and friends. June completed the crossword puzzle every day in the newspaper, the mixed jumble words and the daily joke. She had a great sense of humor, a beautiful smile, a generous spirit and absolutely loved everyone. Every year, June would never forget anyone’s birthday in the whole family and they would always receive a birthday card.
June was predeceased by her parents, her son Robert Andrews, her sister Lois Straw, and her brothers-in-law William Chase and Richard Straw.
June is survived by her 5 children; daughter Wendy Peyrat and husband Everett of Vermont, her son Tom Andrews of Florida, her daughter Martha Halvorsen and husband Todd of Massachusetts, her son Scott Whitney and wife Kristyn of Rhode Island, and her daughter Jennifer Abrahamson and husband Peter of Illinois. Her sister Gladys Forsberg and husband Bob of North Grafton, Massachusetts.
June leaves 10 grandchildren; Sara Wright, Jill Garrant, Matthew Cyr, Chris Andrews, Lauren Andrews, Moto Andrews, Rie Andrews, Callan Whitney, Katarina Whitney and Owen Abrahamson.
June leaves 11 great grandchildren, Jackie Wright, John Garrant, James Garrant, David Garrant, Gordon Garrant, Lee Garrant, Brandon Nielsen, Kameron Cyr, Alexis Cyr, Dylan Cyr Jacobs, and Ryan Cyr.
She also leaves several cousins, nieces, nephews and very special friends, Delys, Petra, Colleen, Pat, Chris, Lois and Judy.
A memorial will be held sometime in 2021. This will be announced at a later date.
