Obituary

It is with great sadness we inform you that Carolyn "Jane " Reynolds, 82, formerly of South Randolph passed on peacefully September 9, 2020.

Valedictorian of her class, anything Jane put her mind to she excelled at, and pursued many interests over the years. They included: farming, 4-H leader, VEHC, Gifford hospital board, VINS school program, hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening, bird watching, painting, and quilting were just a few. Extremely artistic, she enjoys sharing her gifts with others and taught classes quite often.

Jane would tell you the best time of her life was the 35 years she spent on the family farm with Russ and their three children, Scott (Marcia) Reynolds, Carol (Richard) Squire, and Sarah (Rick) Paul. She was known for her hard work, great cooking, and sugar on snow parties. If you stopped by there was always a cup of coffee on for you. She loved her family and all things nature, thoroughly appreciating the beautiful world around her.

After Russ and Jane sold the farm, Jane started working at M&M Redemption Center, then DLM services as an accountant and did so for over 30 years. They moved to Barre where she was known for her beautiful gardens, especially her enormous clematis, her little dog, Duchess, and of course, she was the witch of White street every Halloween!

After Russ passed on 11/09/2013, She moved to an apartment in Barre and continued working until last year. She spent much time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren which brought her tremendous joy. She enjoyed life, her family and her fierce independence until the very end.

Besides her children Jane leaves behind her brother, Don (Carissa) Smith, Sister in law, Rebecca Reynolds, brother in law Roger Gamelin, 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Marjorie Smith, mother and father in-law, Howard F and Margaret Reynolds, sister, Diane Gamelin, brother in-law, Howard S. Reynolds, Sister and brother in-law, Eloise and Floyd McPheteres.

We wish to thank the family and friends who have given her so much love and support for all of these years. Special thanks go to Tracy Olmstead, who helped keep her supplied during covid. Her dear friends, Denise and Ted Clark, Liz and Paul O'Grady, Carolyn and Hughie Raycraft, and Srharni. We also wish to thank Scott's employer, United Ag and Turf of South Royalton, as well as Sarah's, Dr. Gustafson of Palatine IL. for their support.

Special thanks and extreme gratitude to the wonderful staff of hospice, and home health.
Please honor Jane by contributing to:

Per Jane's request her family will celebrate her life privately.

"Above all love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace and its various forms.
Peter 4:18-12

Carol, Scott and Sarah - I am so sad to hear this news. I have so many fond childhood memories of time spent at your farm. Your Mom was very special to me, and I will forever remember cooking and rug hooking classes. She was a great teacher and there was always something to laugh about. Even when we didn't do so well at something, she would laugh and help us find the humor in the situation. She was always very generous and giving. I remember one winter when we didn't have power for almost a week at our house, she would bring dinner to us or invite us to eat at your house. All this extra work on top of running her own household and helping with barn chores. But it didn't bother her--it was just the right thing to do and she did it graciously and with a smile. For many years she was like a second Mom to me and she will always hold a special place in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. Shari (Camp) Whitmore

I am so sad to read of Jane's passing. I knew her when we worked together on projects related to the Multi-age Classroom in
East Randolph in the 1970's in which Sarah and our children, Julie and Shannon, were students together, among other children. Those were interesting and fun years and I enjoyed knowing Jane very much, and you, too, Sarah.
I remember one time at a potluck supper at the school, I commented to Jane, what a good assortment of food there was, especially compared to some potlucks I'd been to. She shared with me a tip about that. She said, "Well I always bring two dishes so there will be enough and I make one that the kids will like." So after that I tried to do that, especially making something that appeals to the children, instead of my usual tuna casserole dish that I used to throw together at the last minute. She was a good role model for me.
She also participated in a radio project I was involved in sponsored by a women's peace group I was in. The project was made up of recorded, one-minute statements by local women from central Vermont. She spoke as a farm woman and told about the expenses of farm equipment and how that affected farming. I thought hers was one of the most effective statements in the project. We appreciated her willingness to help us in that way.
We also worked on the ELF project, Environmental Learning for the Future, which were hands-on experiences exploring nature with the kids. Jane was such a friendly and enthusiastic person to work with and to know.
I wish I had kept in touch with her in the intervening years after she and Russ moved to Barre. It was not surprising to read in her obituary of her many fun activities with your family and her love for all of you. I am so glad to have known her.
With much sympathy to each of you,
Nancy Rice
