Obituary for Clint Morway

Clint E. Morway, 53, died Friday, August 21, 2020, with his kids and loved ones by his side. Clint was born June 27, 1967, to Marlene Hill and Larry Morway in Worcester MA.

Clint married Becky, the mother of his kids on August 22, 1992, in Williamstown VT. His pride and joy were his kids, Carrie, Cameron, and Connor, he loved spending time with them even on occasions taking them to work, memories they will cherish forever. If here today he would tell you that his kids are his biggest accomplishment and that he is very proud of them.

Sadly, Clint’s time with his kids was cut way too short on June 16, 2005, he suffered a near-fatal ruptured brain aneurysm.

His wife at the time Becky, his kids, family, and many friends will not forget that day, the day that the Clint we all loved and knew was taken from us. His kids then ages 11, 9 & 7 would never feel his arms around them or hear I love you again. In an instant, their lives had forever changed. For the months following Becky would fight to get Clint the best possible care, hoping he would come back to his family in some capacity. Sadly, they would have to come to terms that the Clint they knew would never return. Eventually, with help from his mom and others, Becky was able to find a home that specialized in brain injuries. Riverview Life Skills, located in Jeffersonville VT would become Clint’s home for the next decade. Knowing that Clint was being taken care of allowed Becky to pick up the pieces and move forward one day at a time. Months, years would fly by with little change in Clint’s cognitive or physical abilities, this became the new normal. His family lived for the moments that Clint would laugh at the dumbest shows, silly jokes, swearing, and even some inappropriate conversations. If they had to choose the one ability for him to get back, surely laughing was it, after all, Clint was always the comedian in the room.

In 2017, the decision was made by Clint’s family to move him into a home setting he would move into the home of his son Cameron and daughter in law Carrie, they along with his daughter and other supports would care for him 24/7. Though this had its struggles it proved to be the best thing we could ever have done for Clint and his family. Clint was able to form bonds with his four grandchildren and create memories that will last a lifetime. RJ, Levi, Jaxon, and Logan spent time watching tv, made him laugh, and even helped to care for him. How those boys love their Papa!

Before Clint’s illness, he enjoyed hunting, bowling, and playing pool. He loved to talk, he could talk to just about anyone and was always the comedian.

Clint is survived by his mom, Marlene Chase, his sister Carrie Morway-Carpenter, his daughter Carrie Liberty and Son-in-law Matt White, his son Cameron Morway and Daughter-in-law Carrie Morway, his son Connor Morway and his grandchildren RJ & Levi Liberty, Jaxon Morway, and Logan Morway as well as his niece Randi Carpenter, and niece and nephews Clifford, Daniel & Tajia Morway. He is predeceased by his father Larry Morway, his brother Clifford Morway and his son Clint Jr.

A message from his family:

The last 15 years have been a long road for us, there have been many, many ups and downs in our dad’s health, times when we weren’t sure he’d make it another day. Thankful every time he did, giving us and our children one more day to be with him. We knew that his body was wearing out, the frequent hospital stays over the last year was a clear sign. We thought we were prepared for that day, how wrong we were. When he got pneumonia once again late July, we assumed it would be like any other time, in for a few days of antibiotics, and then back home. Sadly, that didn’t happen, there was no recovery this time in order for him to breathe he would have to get medical intervention in a nursing home for the remainder of his life. We had worked so hard, sacrificed so much to have him home with us and now we’d have to decide if this was his time. Our mom had made a promise to him many years ago, after his stay in a nursing home that she would never put him back there. A promise that we knew was the right one. If we could no longer give him a quality of life, then we knew the time had come. With our mom by our side, we made the heart-wrenching decision to stop treatment and bring him home. He gave us 15 amazing years and it was time for him to be at peace. As Jaxon would say We Love You, We Love You More, We Love You Most, We Love You To Infinity and Beyond!

To the ones that were there in the final days by our side as we said goodbye, Linda & Jim Kelley, Michael White, Amber Robertson, and Rachel Kelley, and the hospice team Jessica & Andrea Thank you for your support.

A special Thank You goes out to Clint’s care team which included Trevor Hale, Stephanie Ducharme, and Korin Rideout, his care providers from Riverview Rhonda & Monique, the team at GMSS Danielle Tinker, Tanner Kadleck, and to Martha Ide who not only worked as a nurse for Clint while at GMSS but also was support to his children when she was a nurse in their school.

Lastly, to Becky & Travis Hale, we can’t begin to thank our mom for all the sacrifices she made over the last 15 years for our dad, always making his quality of life her priority and in the roughest moment being our rock and to our stepdad Travis for also making sure our dad had everything he needed and for being there by our side.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 27th, 11 am at the American Legion, 320 N. Main St. Barre, VT. Masks and social distancing are required.
