Toni was the last of my five personal spiritual teachers. While she was more of a coach, I have worked with her material for 33 years. We had a close collaboration in the early 1990’s when I brought her into town for the early Seasons of Prosperity workshops. Barry had hosted her Prosperity course, but I was close to her Seasons work, and gave her feedback on my experience with the process as she was creating it. I still work with her Seasons cycles, and I share with others who ask me for something that helps in personal futures. For that experience, her coaching, and her coordinating our wedding ceremony in Stowe, 2/02/2002 I count her as a teacher of mine. Here’s a reflection which I’ll share with you and post on the memorial site:

We just received the letter from Steve mailed in early September - being in Toronto during Covid, the mail is slow to arrive, and now we’re late to share our condolences. I'm so sorry to hear that she has left us here. I’m relieved that she’s no longer in pain, as I realize the last year or so has been hard for her and Steve.

I had just held a coaching call with her in July – I did not realize it would be our last. I was thinking how busy I was to fit the call in, but I desired to call her again, just to talk if not to coach. She sent me the usual post-coaching hand-written commitment form, and I’ve been getting her regular letters ever since. Today the letter arrived from Wonderworks, and it was Steve. I couldn’t register the news at first, but I accept her transition.

Toni was a friend, confidante, and spiritual teacher of mine. It was on her advice in 1990 that I first went to the Trappist monastery for a silent retreat (I found the Abbey of Gethsemane, and Barry Heermann and I started visiting regularly). I honour her far-seeing compassion to see and to speak and tell what’s so. I really, really listened to Toni.

I remember bringing her to Ohio’s Serpent Mound – we held an improvised ceremony with incense and a chant, at the overlook beyond the egg in the serpent’s mouth.

She helped me with my transition from my first marriage, and to make sure I was in a good space to remarry. Patricia and I were blessed to have her officiating (coordinating) our wedding, held at the Trappe Family Lodge in Stowe VT in a big snowstorm, Feb 2002 (02-02-02).

When Patricia and I planned to leave the US and move to Canada, as political refugees rejecting the illegal Iraq War and the Bush election of 2004, she helped us really think it tough and make this tough life decision. She was my teacher and advocate.

Toni was in the Season of Winter when she died, a 3 in her Seasons. I pray she is in peaceful resonance with creation and can know our love for her now.

For Toni , with love from Gifford. August, 2019.

You Loved Me for Who I Was
Many loved me for who I was, warts and all…You must find at least one mirror that reveals your inner, deepest, and, yes, divine image. -Richard Rohr/Falling Upward

Toni, this is what you have done, not just for me but for so many others.
40 years ago, I was living only in my head, which I thought was a comfortable place to be, but it was really a prison where I was languishing. You came along with a sledgehammer and not just once but many times, took big blows to those fortress walls. WAKE UP! And after the big blows, or sometimes between them, you took many many smaller blows -WAKE UP!
But never meanly, always with love and honor.
You saw me like no one else saw me. You acknowledged my Divine side. Not just acknowledged it but fed it --with workshops, seminars and classes. With authors and books and affirmations and intentions and self-talk cassette tapes...
You fed it with rituals of medicine wheels, prayer flags, sage in a conch shell. And the gong! The gong in the old trainings. I dreamed the other night that I heard that gong again. How important that sound was in the course room, calling us into, and out of, silence.
And to prayers. At 4 and 10 and 4 and 10.
You have created a community of saints (and sinners) of which I am lucky to belong.
You taught by rigor.
You taught by sewing.
You taught by painting cards and signs and making image boards out of an endless supply of magazines.
You taught by making us reorganize our spaces to make them flow.
You taught by the ritual of having meals with candles and flowers and cloth napkins in wooden rings and chocolate candy in red bowls above each place setting. And paisley red tablecloths.
You taught by writing practices. Endless writing practices.
And wonderful, inventive, challenging games.
You taught by sight
and smell – lavender, oranges, incense, and your red sauce bubbling on the stove in the big kitchen.
And pillows. Pillows. And more pillows.
These are all the elements of your love.

Toni was my Teacher, and my best friend. She taught me to love, have compassion for others, look ahead, be generous, be kind, that giving causes getting, to love and honor your parents, to be responsible for my own actions and not play the victim card, to tell the truth and to express myself fully, among a great many more things. My first huge lesson from Toni came, when she asked me to accompany her shopping; she had a training coming in, and needed to get some food items. We filled 2 shopping carts to the very, very top. I came from modest means. This was in the 1990's. I never saw such magnanimity from one beautiful person, and i know i never will. The day before Toni died, she picked out a bracelet just for me and had Noelle mail it to me. Right to the very end, Toni gave, and after she had passed, i was gifted 13 of her very, very generous....a very loving person...someone who will live on in my heart forever and ever and ever. See you later Toni, as we all will surely follow. Love you, Debb Sandalwood

Noelle and Steve,
So many of us were affected by Toni in such a positive way.
She showed me in so many creative ways how to be generousness and rise above my feelings by taking the high road.
I look forward to celebrating her in some way in the future. Love, Mary Hill
