Reginald “Reggie” Valley, age 85, of Essex Junction died July 6th at the Green Mountain Nursing Home after several years of failing health.

He was born June 30, 1935 in Colchester, VT to Telesphore Alfred Valley and Doris Bosley Valley. Reg was a star athlete at Burlington High School in the 1950’s. Their basketball team won the state championship and he got to play at the Boston Garden, an impressive feat for a life-long New England sports fan.

Reg is survived by his wife of 62 years, Becky Valley, and his five children – TJ (Lisa), Eddie (Lisa), Reggie, Tom (Laurie), and Michelle. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother (Nancy Salay, Monica Valley Wisehart, and Bob Valley) and was predeceased by two brothers (Roger and Dick Valley). He has nine grandchildren: Ashley, Brittany, Nathan, Heather, Reggie, Lilly, Jessica, David and Jack. Reggie also has two great-grandchildren: Jacob and Wesley. He adored all of them.

Due to the virus there will be no calling hours, however a Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated at 2pm on Wednesday, July 15th at St. Lawrence Church on West Street in Essex Junction, where social distancing and wearing masks should be followed.

My sincere condolences to all you in the Valley family. I really only knew him through sports and his children, but it was obvious that he was proud of all of you. He was honest, direct, and reasonable during every conversation we ever had. My best to all of you.

I was glad to see the basketball in an adjoining picture on the site for the funeral home. I was a year ahead of him at Burlington High School and on the cheerleading squad during the basketball season so cheered for him and the rest of the team at all home and away games throughout the season including the New England tournament game played in Boston Garden. . Incidentally there is a video on the Internet of the first half of that Boston Garden game. Google it and hopefully you can find it and see Reggie and his teammates in action.

To Becky, TJ, Reg (jr), Tom, Ed, Missy and the entire Valley family, so sorry to hear of the passing of Reg. I always enjoyed the stories from your youth about hunting, sporting events and other family gatherings with your dad! I know he won't be forgotten and the stories will be passed down the generations of Valley's. We are thinking about you during these difficult times,
Cullen, Siobhan, Nolan and Marcelle Barber
