Obituary for Walter R. Allen, Jr. P.E.
Walter R. Allen Jr, 82, of South Burlington passed away on June 29, 2020 at University of Vermont
Medical Center in Burlington, VT after a sudden illness. Born November 29, 1937 in Orange, N.J., he grew up in East Orange, N.J. until he attended Lehigh University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree, majoring in structures. Walter had four P.E. licenses: PA, OH, WV and VT.
While working through college, he contributed to the development of EPDM synthetic rubber at Esso Research & Engineering. Work that used his professional skills included design of foundations and steel structure at M.W. Kellogg Co., and Research Cottrell in pollution control. The balance of his career was in project management and design-build projects for construction companies until he retired from Stewart Construction Inc. of Essex Junction, VT.
Walter is survived by his son, Walter III, daughter Nicole, his brother Richard Allen, a sister Lois Allen Edson, three grandchildren, three nephews, four nieces, 18 grand nieces/nephews, a great grand nephew, and three great grand nieces.
Walter’s interests included fishing and guiding in Ontario for 65 years, NCAA wrestling, college and NFL football, and baseball.
Final arrangements will be by his family, with burial at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown, N.J.
