Obituary for Gary William Garrett
Gary William Garrett, 74, of South Burlington, Vermont went to be with his heavenly father on April 11, 2020 at his winter home in Leesburg, Florida, due to complications from exposure to Agent Orange.
Gary grew up in Burlington, VT and joined the US Army in 1964. He served in Germany, then volunteered for duty in the Republic of Vietnam with The Big Red 1. He later reenlisted for a tour of duty with the US Air Force, eventually finishing his military career as a US Army Recruiter for the Vermont Army National Guard. In retirement, Gary enjoyed driving the school bus for the Shelburne Central School for several years. He loved seeing the smiling children every day.
Gary loved trading vehicles and you never knew what he was going to come home with next. His other passions were deer hunting, boxing, long back road drives, frequenting casinos, and watching the races at Thunder Road. He and his wife Diane loved spending time in their Florida winter home to escape the cold Vermont weather.
Gary was predeceased by his parents Gordon (Bud) and Rosita (Rose) (Boylan) Garrett of Williston, VT. He is survived by his wife Diane (Scribner) Garrett; son Shawn Garrett and his wife Kimberly (Wells) Garrett along with grandson Colby Garrett, of Colchester, VT; brother Gordon Garrett of Milton, VT; sister Lisa Krans of Winooski, VT; brother-in-law Norman Scribner of Cambridge, NY; sister-in-law Audrey Putnam of Bridgewater Corners, VT; nieces: Hillary, Jane, Joan, Jill, Joyce, Karen and Celia; nephews, Jason, Brandon, Lance and Brendon.
Diane wishes to thank the many family and friends who helped Gary through this journey: Shawn, Kim, Colby, Royal, Roger, Larry, Charlotte, Annie, Terri, Tommy, Patty, Lynda, Becky, Gary, Bruce & Mary Jane, Jeffrey, Sheri, Paul, Frank, Norman, Frank & Jeanne, Howard, Lynda, and Bob. It really did take a village to help us move through this stage of life, and for that we were truly blessed.

Many try to regain a regular home life while struggling day and night for the rest of their lives. Your time spent with a veteran is truly invaluable.
