Obituary for Geraldine "Gerri" Palmer (Hoffman)

Thetford Center - Gerri Palmer 89, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2020 at the home of her daughter Jennifer and son in law Norman Poutre in Underhill, VT. Her granddaughter Jacqueline Poutre was also there to help with Gerri’s comfort.
Gerri was born on July 10, 1930, in Frailey Township, Pennsylvania to Wellington and Jennie (Deibert) Hoffman.

Gerri attended Tremont High School during which she played on a championship basketball team. While in high school Gerri took tap dance, voice and piano lessons. As a teenager she tried out for a Tommy Dosey radio show. After high school Gerri worked in a shirt factory. One evening when she was roller skating at the Pine Grove Rink at Indiantown Gap Pennsylvania she met the love of her life, Alden Palmer. They knew each other for 3 months and were married at the Zion’s Lutheran Church in Donaldson, Pennsylvania. Alden and Gerri moved to Thetford Center, Vermont and lived and raised their family there. Gerri attended the Timothy Frost Methodist Church, where she played the organ and sang in the choir. Gerri enjoyed singing for weddings and funerals. Gerri was a victim of dementia and spent the last few years happily at King's Daughter Home in St. Albans, Vermont.

She leaves her daughter Jennifer (Palmer) Poutre and her husband Norman Poutre; her son George Palmer and his wife Susan; grandchildren Jacqueline Poutre and her husband Matthew Beck, Merlin Poutre and his wife Catherine Kearns, George Jr. Palmer, Kristen (Palmer) Hawley, Mandy Jo (Palmer) Comacho and her husband Jason and many great grandchildren. Also many nieces and nephews, sisters in law Judy Palmer, Alice Beauchene, Suzanne Herrit and Josephine Palmer. Gerri was predeceased by her husband Alden, her sisters Maribelle (Hoffman) Zerbe, Katherine Hoffman and brother David Hoffman.

The family would like to thank the Pastor and congregation of the United Church of Thetford for their kindness and caring of Gerri. Also her niece Marlene (Manning) Jenks for all the help after Alden Passed away. The home where Gerri spent the last few years, was very loving and kind. Lastly we want to thank Katie Sisson for being with us as Gerri joined Alden.
