Burlington - Gilbert E. Bolsterle passed through the gates into the waiting arms of God on March 19th, 2020 at the Ethan Allen Residence in Burlington, Vermont.
“Gil/Gib” was born in February of 1925 in Plainfield, NJ to John and Laura Bolsterle. He was married to Hildegarde Bostreom after returning from Coast Guard duty in Washington state during WWII. At the time of his passing, he and his wife “Hilly” had been married for more than 70 years.
Gilbert was a talented musician and at the age of 19 toured South America as a jazz drummer. He continued to play with other musicians in Burlington area from the 1960s through the 1980s. His other interests included trout fishing, building an elaborate model train system, kayaking, teaching his children the enjoyment of nature and wonderful trips to Florida with a travel trailer every winter.
He was a wonderfully supportive husband and father with a sympathetic compassionate nature, intelligent decisions and a sense of the value of life.
He leaves his loving wife Hildegarde, his daughter Gretchen, his son Eric, his grandson Dylan, his granddaughter Dayna and great grand children Aaron, Kyle, Jakob, Aurora, Dustin, Madison, Hannah and Owen and his newly born great great grandson Aaron Jr.
Per Gilbert’s wishes, there will be no services at this time.
A very special thank you to the staff at Ethan Allen residence for providing a wonderful caring environment and to his primary care physician Dr. Gilwee.
An avid financial supporter of the Human Society for many years, in lieu of flowers donations to the Franklin County Humane Society in St. Albans, VT. Would be appreciated.
