Obituary for Nancy Ann Preston (Schmartz) (Schmartz)
Nancy Ann (Schmartz) Preston died unexpectedly on March 9, 2020, in Newport Center, VT.
Born in Hartford, CT, on November 7, 1943, to Anabel (Higgins) and John Schmartz, she graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1961 and worked at Aetna Insurance in Hartford before marrying Lyle Preston on February 8, 1963 at First Church in Glastonbury. She stayed home to raise their three children and enjoyed cooking, gardening, and special events with family. They retired to Newport Center in 2002 and loved visits from their extended family. Nancy passed her strong work ethic, sense of humor, and compassion for others on to her son and two daughters. She was extremely handy but will best be remembered for the wonderful Christmas cookies that she baked for family, friends, and neighbors.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 57 years Lyle Carmi Preston, Sr., in Newport Center and their children: Lyle, Jr., partner Liz Marciano and her son AJ of South Windsor, CT; Lisa, husband Bradley Pagliaro and Lisa’s daughter Natasha Bailey of Honolulu, HI; Linda and son Al of Longmeadow, MA; brothers John and Robert Schmartz of Glastonbury, CT; her dearest childhood friend Sandy DePietro of Marlborough, CT; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her parents and in-laws, her youngest brother Dave Schmartz, his wife Bonnie and their son Michael, all of Springfield, VT.
The family is profoundly grateful to North Country Hospital and Bayada Home Health Care for their loving care and assistance. Per Nancy’s request there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to North Country Hospital, 189 Prouty Dr., Newport, VT 05855.
