Obituary for William Brice Adams

Essex - William Brice "Bill" Adams, 79, passed away at his home on Wednesday February 19, 2020. He was born on December 29, 1940 son of the late Thurston and Dorothy (Johnson) Adams. Bill was a proud graduate of Burlington High School, where he was voted “Best All Around” by his classmates. He went on to obtained a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Education from the University of Vermont. Bill taught social studies for 40 years at Lyman C. Hunt High School in Burlington and at Essex High School in Essex. He greatly enjoyed his time with his students and colleagues.

Bill served his adopted village of Essex Junction as a planning commissioner, village trustee, village
president, library trustee and finally as supervisor of elections. Bill was active at the First Congregational Church in Essex Junction, serving as a deacon and a trustee, as well as enjoying the Tuesday morning discussion group.

Bill was an avid sports fan and followed the Red Sox, Canadians, Patriots, Wesleyan Hockey and had recently adopted Duke Basketball. He rarely missed a game in which his grandchildren participated.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Betty Adams of Essex, his son Kyle Adams and wife Jennifer of Bermuda, his daughter Christine Giummo and husband Jesse of Essex, two brothers John Adams and wife Sally of Lexington, MA, Donald Adams and wife Rosemarie of Williamsville, NY, five grandchildren Alexander Giummo, Ryann Giummo, Kira Giummo, Ava Adams, Jack Adams, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.

Per Bill's wishes no visiting hours will be held. In light of construction at the First Congregational Church services will be held at Holy Family Church, Essex Junction on Sunday February 23, 2020 at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Bill's memory may be made to First Congregational Church or Vermont Respite House.
