It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gail B. Failing on Feb. 12, 2020. Gail was born in Troy, NY on May 17, 1937 to Francis and Rose Bellen. She grew up in Canajoharie, NY where she attended the local schools and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Little Falls, NY.

Gail began her professional career at Central National Bank in Canajoharie, NY. She started in the Bookkeeping Department and worked hard to receive promotions to Teller, Loan Officer, and Branch Manager. In 1990, after 35 years, Gail started a second career with the Golub Corporation in Schenectady, NY. She worked in Consumer Services at Golub for 22 years until her retirement in 2012.

Gail was a devout Catholic and maintained a strong faith her entire life. She was a warm and engaging person who loved to have fun and made many dear friends. She was blessed with artistic talents and practiced many crafts to express her simple, yet profound joy for life. In 2016, Gail continued her adventures, moving to Allenwood in South Burlington, VT. She quickly adapted to her new home and made new friends learning to play Maj Jong, knitting, rubber stamping, and participating in writing and book groups. Gail loved to cook and entertain family and friends.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Lynn) Augustine Wright and her husband Richard of Colchester, VT, her son Michael J. Augustine and his wife Karla of Fulton, NY, and her precious grandchildren Hannah Wright of Burlington, VT and Zachary Wright of Colchester, VT. Her husband, Merwyn Failing, whom she married in 1968, predeceased her in 2004.

Gail was such a wonderful woman. I met her through the Steps to Wellness program. We instantly hit it off and I looked forward to every exercise session with her. She continued to support the program, a lot of the times without even asking. She would be right there! She helped us at the Cancer Conference each year at our info table and she’d smile and tell everyone about our program. She helped us fundraiser at the Leunig’s fashion show event. I’ve never seen someone tell so many raffle tickets. She had a gift of making people laugh and smile. I will miss her dearly. Can’t express how fond of her I was.

I met Gail about four years ago but it feels like a lifetime. That’s the magic she had- she made connections and friendships in big ways!
We shared interests in humor and the creative arts. Conversation came easy. She was joyful, feisty, strong and loving. I will miss her like crazy but I’m grateful to have had her in my life.

Gail was a friend of Cabot (and me and my Mum too!) - we would see Gail when Cabot and I were doing our therapy dog visits at Allenwood, where it so happens my mother lived as well. And - in the beauty of a small world, Gail realized that I had bought Lynn and Rich's sailboat; this gave us another reason to say hi, visit, talk about the love of sailing. And I remember the smile and delight in her eyes when she related the joy of the sail that she had in summer of 2019. Sail on Gail and thank you for your friendship with my Mum, Barbara, and Cabot and me.

I was saddened to hear of Gail’s passing. I go back to at least 1997 with Gail. We met at Golub and she did a Stampin’ Up demonstration in my home in 1997. It sparked something great for many people in attendance who continued to make many beautiful cards...and t-shirts. Gail would subsequently keep us up-to-date with our card making skills as we continued to have get-togethers with her over the years. Gail and I would catch each other in the hallways at Golub and enjoy many long and happy conversations. We had a connection right from the start. I had the pleasure to visit with Gail in her beautiful new city of South Burlington, VT on three occasions. Gail was a bright light in everyone’s life that she touched. First and foremost she loved her family and was so very, very proud of all of them. I could always pick up with Gail wherever we left off. That is the mark of a true friend indeed. I have no doubt that the Gates of Heaven were opened wide to receive Gail. She will be greatly missed. I know that she is Resting In Peace.
