On October 1, 2019 Theresa Marie Bachand, at 58 years young, lost her courageous battle with cancer.

Theresa was a free spirit. She loved the simple things in life; give her a campfire and a chair and she was happy. Exploring the dirt roads of Vermont and along the way finding treasures. She was an outdoor girl, our beautiful Flower Child, Nature and everything in it gave her Peace.

When the sun was out her beautiful blue eyes would get bluer then blue and then she would smile, that’s when everything became her back drop and she would Shine.

Theresa loved living in Vermont with all of the fun outdoor activities available any season. She loved kayaking, hiking, road trips, fishing, camping, music & dancing, collecting crystals and most important our yearly trips to Hampton Beach. She loved the foliage in Fall, playing in the snow in Winter, hated the cold weather but made the best of it like everything else.

She truly loved her job at VLTC in Montpelier, having been there for 8 years. Her coworkers soon became friends and over the past year and a half became like family. Supporting her every step of the way as well as supporting her lovingSpouse, Elton Hallock. Bringing food, sending cards & flowers and even donating their vacation time and money to help with medical expenses. She will forever be grateful for them and all they did for her. Over the past 40 years she also enjoyed working for Construction and Architectural Companies, bringing her style of expertise to any office she worked in.

One of her greatest joys in life was spending time with her daughter Nichole, son in-law Matt Bartlett and her beloved GrandDog-Fur-Baby Jack and Kitty Marley. It didn’t take much to maker her happy but what made her happy meant so much. She loved with her heart and was loved so much and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her Loving & Devoted Spouse Elton Hallock, whom she knew since High School and reconnected with a couple of years ago after 40 years. She was his Golden Goddess. We know he was sent to be her Angel, he took extra special care of her, accommodating ALL of her wishes, while staying strong and selflessly supportive for her and her loved ones. She loved him more than anything and didn’t know what she would have ever done without him. She will now be his Angel, watching over him and protecting him. Theresa also leaves behind their two kitties who gave her so much joy, Spanky and Buckwheat. Thanks to Elton she was able to travel to and visit Arizona, seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time and he also brought her to Tennessee to see Grace Land. These trips meant everything to her and it wouldn’t have been possible without him by her side.

Theresa was born April 22, 1961 and grew up in Winooski with a very large family. She married Robert Bachand in 1981 and moved to Starksboro to raise their daughter Nichole who was born shortly after. Although the marriage only lasted 7 years they remained friends over the years and worked hard to co-parent their daughter the best they could. After some bumps in the road she lived in Colchester for many years, purchasing her first brand new home in 2002. She had many loving friends through Bill W for 20 years. Eventually she did move out to the country, Roxbury VT, where she felt she always belong, she WAS a Country Girl! Making new friends and a new life for herself, she was finally happy and content especially once Elton came along to spend their lives together, unfortunately cancer cut that way too short but they made the absolute best out of the time they had together.

She leaves behind many loved ones. First and foremost, Elton Hallock, Nichole & Matt Bartlett also 8 siblings, many nieces/nephews, numerous cousins, aunts/uncles and her mother, Carlene (Earle) Lavallee of Eden VT. Her father, Raymond Lavallee of Winooski VT, predeceased her at the ripe age of 82 in May of 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s as well as her older brother Brian Lavallee of Grand Isle, who passed away in December 2017 at the young age of 57 after a lengthy but strong battle with a rare neurodegenerative disorder called MSA. A heartfelt thanks to her brother in-law Rich Frank for his help and support. And a very special thanks to her sister Linda Frank as well as her brother Bruce Lavallee, both traveling from New York to be here, for being there to care for her at the end, they never left her side. Many others were also there to help get her through the tough days, we can’t thank them enough for even the shortest visits or smallest gestures, it meant the world to her, you know who you are.

My cousin Theresa is still shining her light on us because she's going to help me tell this story to everyone I can: Theresa's mom and dad took me into their already full home when my mother passed when I was 17, in 1976. I was "Goodie" to our Winooski High gang but Theresa and I always called each other "Cous". After graduation I went back to California and after about a year of trading letters I let the contract trail off. For some reason in early 2018 Brian came to mind. I Googled him and discovered he had passed away only recently. That's when I saw Ray had passed away too. But there was Theresa Bachand among the survivors and I found her VLCT email. I thought, I should say hello but I didn't want to "intrude" into her life after 40 years. But I saved the email address and every now and then I'd think I should just do it but I never did. Over the last month or so Theresa kept coming to my mind again, more than ever. Today, 12/30, I said, "Dammit, I'm gonna do it!" So I went to VLCT to reconfirm the email was the same but there was no Theresa among the staff. I thought, did she change jobs? So I Googled... and there was this obituary. I was overcome immediately. I remembered a small suitcase of keepsakes in the closet and yep, I still have the 5 letters she wrote me in 1977-1978! I will always cherish them! I haven't read them all again yet but she wanted to come see California. I don't know if you ever made it out Cous but you have now because I can feel you so alive in my heart! Just 5 days ago, on Christmas day, a thought hit me so strongly I actually wrote it down: "Theresa can be your doorway back to your family." I can just hear her beaming: Merry Christmas Cous!! Carlene, Linda, anyone, if you see this, I'd love to hear from you. I'm sure Theresa will help too!

Lisa always had a smile, and a warm hug, no matter the circumstances. That beautiful spark of positive light and spirit will be greatly missed here at VLCT. No one can replace her. Rest in peace, sweet lady. We miss you dearly.

Theresa always had one of the best costumes on Halloween! She was such a strong woman fighting a battle she could not win. So sorry for your loss.

There isn't enough room here for me to write all about my friend Theresa. She was the most outgoing and happy person to be around, especially after she and Elton/Elvis were reunited. How much fun did they have and she told us all about it. Her and I used to hug, cry, talk, laugh everyday when I was working. The little treasurers that I have from her are a lasting memory for me BUT there is no way you can forget someone so nice. I always enjoyed Halloween at the office as I knew she would come dressed up in an awesome outfit - she really out did herself each year. She gave me her "dammit doll" to use and boy does the doll wish she was back as it always has a BIG headache from me. I miss her EVERY day and she will NEVER be forgotten by me. Don't tell her, but I still cry when I think about her being gone from my life. I can still hear her laugh from above as she is now reunited with loved ones and they are sitting around a campfire and telling stories. She is a keeper and a huge sweetheart. I will never forget my visit with Roxanne, Elton and laughing Theresa - we had fun that day. REALLY the strongest person I know. :) Love Gail Barrett, Vermont League of Cities and Towns.
