Obituary for Clarence Rich Diffenderffer Jr.
Clarence Rich Diffenderffer Jr., 86, of the Mainline Philadelphia area and more recently Underhill, Vermont, passed away June 3rd, 2019 at the home of his son in Underhill, Vermont.
He was born August 19th, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to Clarence and Ann Diffenderffer.
He attended McDonough Military Academy, The Gilman School, and the University of Virginia, all of which he loved. He served in the First City Troop as a captain and was stationed in Japan during the second world war. He was a member of the Sons of the Revolution and was proud of the fact that his ancestors were privateers who sacked British Ships of the coast of Maryland! He enjoyed singing with the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia for over 50 years. Tennis was one of his favorite sports and he was famous for his various spins and drop shots that would keep his opponents running. He was a member of The Merion Cricket Club, The Courts, and the Philadelphia Racket Club to mention a few. He also enjoyed skiing and played rugby with The First City Troop. He could not resist collecting anything antique. He loved people and brought a lot of joy and fun to many, just by being his charming self.
He leaves: his son Michael Diffenderffer and his daughter-in-law Emily Diffenderffer, and his three grandchildren whom he loved, Sam 15, Nissi 14, and Avia Diffenderffer 12, and their dog Sleek.
He is predeceased by: his daughter Anne Diffenderffer, and his first wife Sandra Metcalf Shober (mother of his two children). Anne McCready Diffenderffer his mother and Clarence Rich Diffenderffer his father.

A memorial celebration will be held on June 19th, 2019 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Merion Cricket Club in Haverford, PA in the Furness room (old bar area). He will be buried next to his father at Louden Park Cemetery in Baltimore. Memorial contributions may be made to Canine Partners for Life via their website: k94life.org
