Obituary for Weldon R. Morin

SOUTH BARRE – Weldon R. Morin, 79, passed away Friday evening on May 24th, 2019 at The Barre Gardens following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 20, 1939 in South Barre, the son of Romeo P. Morin and Frances A. (Henry) Morin. He attended South Barre graded school and was a member of Spaulding High School class of 1958. On June 20, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart Joan Darling.

Weldon was a lifelong mechanic, owning and operating Wel’s Texaco Service Centre on Route 14 in South Barre for many years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing horse shoes and playing cards. He especially loved playing country music on his guitar and enjoying good times with his family.

He was Second Assistant Fire Chief in the Barre Town Fire Department, South Barre Station for several years. After he sold his service station, Weldon worked at the Washington Electric Coop as a mechanic until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Barre Elks Lodge #1535. Weldon was known for his compassionate and generous ways and his great sense of humor.

He leaves his wife Joan, daughters Melody (Ray) McCormack, Carol Hebert (Andre Provost), and a son Rodney (Pamela) Morin. Brothers Roland (Anita) Morin, Ellis (Betty) Morin, Edward (Linda) Morin and a sister Claudette (Keith) Fisher. Grandchildren Monica White (fiancé Jeremy Matt), Amanda White (companion Chris DePriest) and Collin Morin. Great granddaughter Julia Light. Several cousins, one uncle and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.

Weldon’s family extends sincere appreciation and gratitude for the kindness and excellent care he received from staff at Barre Gardens and Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice during his illness.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 8, 2019 at 10:00am at the Websterville Baptist Church, 148 Church Hill Road, Websterville, Vermont. Inurnment will be private and held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
