Essex - Timothy Rich Sande passed away suddenly after a short illness at his home in Essex on May 24, 2019. The son of Pete and Diane Sande, he was born on June 18,1984. Tim was raised in Shelburne, attended GMVS, and graduated from Rice Memorial High School in 2003. He continued his studies at Johnson State and UVM. Tim was always full of energy, a skilled and joyful skier, and a playful spirit who loved his family and friends. He delighted in the company of children and his family dogs, the late Sadie and now Sophie. His family is heartbroken at his passing but grateful for the life shared with a gentle soul who saw the good in everyone, loved with an open heart, and forgave easily. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tim leaves behind his mother and father Diane and Pete Sande of South Burlington; his brother and sister-in-law, Peter Sande and Tracy Shawyer, and niece Lorelai, of Boston; his grieving aunts, Wanda Krause and husband David of Shelburne, Susan Rich and husband Andrew Arrison of Massachusetts, and Carolee Cruse of Arizona; and several beloved cousins, family and friends.
A private service will be held for immediate family. Memorial contributions in Tim’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family also invites you to share your memories by visiting

Diane and Pete,
I am so sorry and sad to hear of your loss. Tim was my person growing up, and I will always regret losing touch like I did. We had so many adventures and so much fun together in our youth. I will always look back fondly on those memories. Among them, riding our bikes through the neighborhood and back woods, and taking our allowances to Galipeaus to buy candy. I remember playing a chasing game through my house and breaking a lamp, trying to hide it from my parents. Playing G.I.Joes upstairs and your house, admiring all of his trophies from rec soccer. I remember how awesome it was that he had video games and a game boy and let me watch and play Mario Brothers (I was terrible). The amazing Halloween parties you used to throw and needing my family to come get me because I was too scared to walk back to my house. Sledding and building snow forts in the cul-de-sac. And all of the awesome snacks you guys had in your basement! Man, we were quite the pair, and I was so lucky to have had him as my friend.
My thoughts are with you, and my heart is sad.

Dear Diane and Pete,
I was so very sad to hear of Tim's passing from Kevin. Those 2...loved having Tim in our home. Every time I pet a dog, I still remember something Tim said when he was petting our golden Marley. He said the softest best part of a dog was that little soft fur under the chin. It seems like such a small thought, but it always reminded me of his soft and sensitive nature. I hope you can find comfort in your wonderful memories. Nora Haser (Murtagh)

Diane and Pete - So sorry to hear the loss of Timmy. I always remember the days you were at Lake Iroquois and our boys played together in the water. He always seemed so fun and full of like. I hope your memories will be held close to help you get through the days ahead.

Please know you are in our thoughts.

He was one of my first crushes. We played trumpet together in band. As someone who suffers from social anxiety, he always made me feel welcome and comfortable. He was a good man with a great heart! I will always cherish my time with him and his ability to make us all laugh!

Tim was a kind and gentle neighbor, who always had time to laugh & joke, with the second floor crowd.
It was easy to tell the love, he had for his family, as he spoke often of all of you.
His laughter will be missed.
