Obituary

Frederick Edward Tardie, formerly of Middlebury.

BURLINGTON, VT— Frederick Edward Tardie, 75, of Burlington, died on April 28. 2019. He was born March 15, 1944, in Springfield, VT, the son of George Tardie and Anna (Begin) Tardie.

Fred grew up in Trumbull, CT. He moved to Cornwall, VT in 1970 where he lived for 19 years. During this time, Fred worked at Beckwith Motors, Sears, Montgomery Ward, Shea Motors and other local auto and body shops. He opened “Tardie’s Town Line Auto” in 1981 where he worked until he moved to Burlington in 1989. He was a Boy Scout leader, Moose Lodge, and Masonic Lodge member. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman who passed his love of the outdoors and the sport of hunting and fishing on to his children.

Fred was a gifted automatic transmission specialist and mechanic. Fred was known by his friends as a hard-worker and craftsman who could be relied on to help them with any home improvement or building project. He spent evenings and weekends building additions on his own and the homes of friends and family members. He designed and built the garage for Tardie’s Town Line Auto, a business he was proud to own.

In 1990, Fred moved to Burlington where he met his current wife Susan (Jones). He retired from the University of Vermont in 2012 where he served as a member of the maintenance department for seven years.

Fred is survived by his wife, Susan (Jones) Tardie of Burlington; children: Ruth (Roger) Ingalsbe of Bloomington, IL; Frederick (Paula) Tardie II of Taunton, MA; Tammy Ghizzoni of Needham, MA; Steven (Darcy) Tardie of New Haven; Kenneth and Tammy Sweeney of Burlington; grandchildren: Joshua, Jacob, Jessica, Emily, Dylan, Kayley, Tyler, Samantha, Mariah, James, Tabitha, Scotty, and Luna.

Fred was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Marie Kasmarik and George Tardie. A graveside service for Fred and his sister Marie will be held in Richmond, VT at the convenience of the family. For the full obituary and updates regarding graveside service, please visit www.awrfh.com.
