Obituary

Swanton - Sally A. Cleland, 67, went peacefully to be in the loving and healing arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at her residence in Swanton with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Plattsburgh, NY on April 16, 1952 to the late Ronald and Anna Gooley of Champlain, NY.

Sally dedicated her whole life to caring for and educating children. She spent many years as a preschool teacher and as a child care center director, working in a variety of settings, and went on to co-own her own centers in Highgate and Swanton, VT. The most important children in her life were her grandchildren Ivy, Tommy, and Julius, as well her very special "grand-friend" Adam Woodward of Swanton. Sally loved playing cards, horseshoes and shooting pool. She also loved bird watching, listening to The Beatles, and cuddling up with her sweet cat, Lovey. Sally was a Bible-believing Christian who wanted everyone to know the only way to eternal life is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ to forgive our sins.

Sally is survived by her two daughters Marnie (Cleland) and Jim Branca of Swanton, VT , Mandy Cleland and Sivan Mesner of Stowe, VT; grandchildren Ivy and Nick Garven of Johnson, VT, Thomas Branca of Swanton, VT, Julius Mesner of Stowe, VT, four brothers John and Sandy of Milford, OH, Thomas and Donna Gooley of Champlain, NY, Lawrence and Jill Gooley of Plattsburgh, NY, Skipp Gooley and Paul Lescatre of Manchester, NH.

The family would like to thank our dear friend Karey Edele of Franklin, VT for her love, help and support to Sally.

A celebration of Sally's life will be held on Saturday May 4, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Union Bible Church, 102 South Main St, Alburgh, VT.

Memorial contributions in Sally's memory may be made to Franklin County Animal Rescue in St. Albans, VT.

My sincere condolences for your family and friends. May God provide you with the strength you need to cope during this difficult time. The bible promises a future hope of seeing our dead loved ones again. John 5:28 says "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out".

My prayers and thoughts are with Sally’s family. I was very lucky to have had her as a friend growing up. Playing cards, listening to the Beatles and cuddling up with my cat are all things we loved to do back then. I hope she always remembered those years as fondly as I do.

My heartfelt condolences to Marnie, Mandy, and family. Aunt Sally was a one of a kind...a truly wonderful person with a heart of gold. I know I'm going to miss her, but I will remember her laughter and sense of humor most of all. She will always be in my thoughts, especially when I manage to do something good for others. Say hello to everyone in heaven for me, and know that you were the best aunt we could have asked for!

My heartfelt sympathy to the family of my dear friend Sally. Sally I will forever remember the times so long ago that we would tell each other the plots of scary movies. Afterward, we would burst into laughter because we scared ourselves silly. Sally, you are a truly beautiful soul; and I will add your name to my nightly prayers. We didn't see each other often, but when we did, we picked up right where we left off. Thank you, Sally, for the wonderful memories, the sisterly love and the warm wonderful hugs. One more favor Sally: Please give, Scott, one of those hugs and tell him I love him and miss him so very much. Much love and God Bless you...........
