Obituary for James Owen Jarvis

James O. Jarvis, 87, of Richford/Isle La Motte passed away at Our Lady of the Meadows Care Facility in Richford, VT on Sunday, April 23, 2017 after several years of declining health with family members spending much of the last 2 weeks with him. He was born in Burlington, on October 24, 1929, son of the late Everett and Hattie (Naylor) Jarvis. He attended school in Isle La Motte where he eventually met his wife who started her teaching career at the Isle La Motte School. He joined the army and she flew to Arkansas to marry him on Sept. 15, 195l before he left for the Korean War. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before her passing in January 2014. He resided in South Burlington for 48 years and was employed for 30 years and retired from G.E. in Burlington. They spent their summers at their camp in Isle La Motte swimming and fishing and entertaining their grandchildren. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and wild ways and his love of kids, animals, gardening and cars.
Surviving him is his son Timothy Jarvis of Shelburne, daughter Jamie Grenier and husband Peter of Underhill: granddaughters, Ariel Jarvis and fiancée Tommy Carland & Stephanie Farrell and Shane Meunier: grandsons Christopher and Jason Grenier and his beloved Cocker Spaniel JJ and Sue Barnes who adopted JJ and visited him many times so he could keep seeing his dog.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Our Lady of the Meadows for their years of dedication and amazing care of dad.
There will be no visiting hours. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held on Thursday May 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ft. Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester.
