Obituary for Karl Gustav Masch Jr.

Karl Gustav Masch Jr.
On November 21, 2016, Karl, in the company of his devoted and loving daughters Pam, Donna, and son-in-law Greg, sailed with peace and comfort onward from the bounds of his earthy world and into the open arms of his Creator, family and friends awaiting his return home.
It was on July 8, 1929, that Karl was born to Flora R. (Campbell) Masch, and her husband Karl Masch Sr., in Whitestone, Long Island. He then moved with his family and resided in Wappingers Falls, NY. At 17 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge, CV 45, for its maiden world cruise during the era of World War II and China Service. It was during his service as an Electrician/Fireman that he earned the title of “Shellback” and formed lifelong relationships with his fellow sailors. It was while he was enlisted that Karl also gained his high school diploma in Hawaii, before it was recognized as one of our 50 states.
Upon leaving the Navy in 1950, Karl joined his father working for the Texaco Refinery in Glenham, NY, followed by his 40 year career with IBM, Poughkeepsie and ultimate relocation to Essex Junction. While in NY, he also spent time training and handling German Shepards in shows for his parents’ kennel, Little Big Pine. He enjoyed many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, golf, woodworking, but more than all was his years of bowling and coffee with his Monday crew at Sparetime. He took pride in also having participated in every election since he could vote, including 2016.
His greatest joys were his daughters. Pam Bean (Greg), Donna Ferraro, and grandchildren Scott (Kim), Emily, Jake, Adrien and great-granddaughters, Katelyn and Chrissy. Also included with those he loved, and who loved him, are his sister Doris Jean Jacobson Reese of Florida, many nephews, and his best buddy and family friend Ray Sherrod. There are many others whose lives he touched in a caring way, and too numerous to list, but are always remembered including Dr. Katherine Gonzalas.
Among those who awaited Karl’s arrival home were his parents, his siblings, sister Flora Masch Day, brother Allan Masch, and lifetime friends Lou Scalzi and Bernice McNeil.
A future memorial service will be held in the Spring at the convenience of his family. The family invites you to share your memoires and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com
