Obituary for Elizabeth Mary Sullivan (McEvoy)

Elizabeth Mary Sullivan (McEvoy)
Elizabeth “Bette” Sullivan, 93 passed away peacefully at her home on April 9, 2014. She was born a twin on 4/5/21, her twin, Patsy, predeceased her many years earlier. They were raised in Harrison, NJ and spent many summers at the Monmouth Beach, NJ shore. Bette never lost her love of the ocean where she and her girls spent many years and lived in Rumson, NJ. Bette just celebrated her 93rd birthday with a new haircut & perm & dinner with family and friends – ending with 2 desserts, as usual.
Bette was a strong, independent, confident and caring woman far ahead of her time. She raised 2 daughters on her own after her husband died suddenly while still young. She was self-employed, owned her own home and put 2 daughters through school.

She was a graduate of Trap Hagen School of Design and spent many years as a lead buyer for Macy’s. She was a wonderfully talented clothes designer and tailor, later moving on to be lead salesperson for a major cookware and china firm.

In these later years, Bette was retired at home and enjoyed being with the activity on Church Street in Burlington, shopping, eating out and movie weekends. Bette had long-term home health care assistance during the week and was provided with personal assistance from Sissy Turner.

Bette was forever an optimist, a dreamer, an example of kindness, a big-hearted and worry-free, happy soul, always ready to laugh. She enjoyed life and sweets. She loved the dogs at home and took good care of them. Her family feels blessed to have had her for 93 years; she will be forever missed.

Bette is survived by her daughters, Nancy Hock, Diane Sullivan, Rita Mary Neff, her grandson, Richard Hock great grandson, Brendan, her grandson, Christian Hock and his wife, Dominique, and great grandchildren, Cameron and Scout, and great nephew, Douglas Katelus.

I love you … bushels & a peck … and a hug around the neck…. Sleep well. G’nite.

In lieu of flowers, please keep Mom in your thoughts and prayers.
