Obituary for Dorothy May Irish (Hutchins)

Dorothy May Irish (Hutchins)
Dorothy M. (Hutchins) Irish

Hyde Park

Dorothy May (Hutchins) Irish, 88 passed away at her home in Hyde Park on Wednesday December 11, 2013. She was born on June 30, 1925 in Trenton, NJ daughter of the late William and Maude (Stewart) Hutchins.

Dorothy attended school in Trenton New Jersey and was a member of the Baptist Church before moving to Vermont with her second husband Jay John Preston of Stowe and Morrisville. They eventually settled on Bridge Street in Morrisville after Jay returned from WWII and raised their 3 children there. Betty Jayne was shot and killed in Boston Mass. as a result of accidental cross fire from police altercation which she was not involved on. September 10 1964. Eight months later Jay died of heart failure on May 10, 1965. George Becker and Carol Byrd were already out on their own. George was in the paratroopers and Carol married to David McNeil and living in Waterbury. Dot met and married Paul Irish and moved onto Wabun Avenue in Morrisville where they were to live until moving into Sterling View. Paul and Dot were lifelong members of the Rebeccas and Oddfellows Lodge in Hyde Park. They traveled extensively with the lodge and made many lifelong friends as a result of their Lodge involvement. They were members of the local church in Hyde Park and attended when they could.

Dot worked at the local grocery store on Main Street in Morrisville and enjoyed her work. She was a people person and never ran out of things to talk about. She also worked at Johnson State College with her husband Paul for a few years and enjoyed that as well.

Dorothy was a doting mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and remained so despite her many strokes, and failing health. She will be missed by all she touched in our little community and held forever in the hearts of her loving family.

The world will not be the same for us.
If tomorrow starts without me and I'm not there to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today
While thinking of the many things we didn't get to say.
I know how much you care for me, and how much I care for you
Each time that you think of me I know you'll miss me too

But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand,
that an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand
and said my place was ready in heaven far above, and
that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye,
for all my life I'd always thought I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for and so much more to do.
It seemed almost impossible that I was leaving you.
I thought of all the love we shared and all the fun we had.
If I could relive yesterday, I thought, just for a while
I'd say goodbye and hug you and maybe see you smile.

But then I finally realized that this could never be,
for emptiness and memories would take the place of me
And when I thought of worldly things that I'd miss come
tomorrow I thought of you and when I did my heart was filled with sorrow

But when I walked through heavens gates, I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me from his great golden throne.
He said ”This is eternity, and all I've promised you,
Today your life on earth is past but here it starts anew
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last
and since each day's the same. there’s no longing for the past.

But you have been so faithful, so trusting, so true.
Though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn't do.
You have been forgiven and now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand and share my life with me?"

So if tomorrow starts without me. Don't think we're far apart, for every time
you think of me ,please know I'm in your heart

She is survived by her children George H. Becker, of NH and Carol S. Byrd and her husband George of Hyde Park; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy was also predeceased by her husband Paul Irish on May 13, 2005, a daughter Betty Jayne Preston, two brothers Harry Hutchins, Isaac Hutchins, two sisters Mabel Hutchins and Irva Johnson.
